It's a nice size, has a beautiful retro look, it feels solid and works very well.
    R. Baer
The battery life though leaves much to be desired in that it only lasts a few hours and you cannot use it while charging.
    Deutsche Man
I thought it would just make my headphones louder but the sound quality is freaking AMAZING!

I've owned several previous FiiO products - the FiiO L3 Line Out Dock (LOD) Cable For iPod and iPhone (back when I had an ipod) the FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier, and the FiiO E7 USB DAC and Portable Headphone Amplifier (Black). I also have several pairs of decent headphones, including the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones, and Grado Prestige Series SR225i Headphones. So I'm very familiar with what you should be getting out of a product like this.

To put it simply, the FiiO E11 amp is astounding! It's slightly smaller than the E7, but has a similarly excellent build quality. The analog volume knob (pot) on the top makes for easy adjustments without having to remove it from your pocket. And the power is phenomenal!

If you're using the stock ibuds... well, first of all - stop! You can't imagine how much of your music you're missing! But once you've upgraded your headphones, a lightweight portable amplifier will make all the difference in the world.

This review is based off the following parameters: Upgrading from Senn HD205's to AKG K242's, and AFTER having tried out the FiiO E5.

The E5 to me felt underpowered, and slightly useless. Driving my iPod through a Line Out (The F9 cable) through a third generation ipod nano into the E5 provided mediocre results at best. While the sound was a little warmer, all I could do to change anything was raise and lower the volume of the amp. I was not impressed at all, and decided that if I was going to pay 2x.xx for an amp, I'd might as well jump up an extra forty and make it worthwhile. (Doesn't make sense, does it??)

The E11 is slightly ignored by its brother, the E7, which is slightly more versatile. However, I'm primarily using my headphones on my iPod, so I don't need the onboard DAC. If you don't need it either, I'd suggest trying out the E11.

The E11 is light, but not so light as to make you question the build quality, which is very solid looking. The black finish gets fingerprints on it easily, and takes some buffing to get rid of, but I could live with that.
In the box you will find the unit, cables (power, audio, etc), and a rubber band to strap the unit onto whatever mp3 player you own. (I didn't realize this, so I had ordered a pack separately, which I use instead as I found the included band too loose) Positioning of the bands can be tricky, depending on what style of mp3 player you own. Play around a bit, but you'll probably never be completely satisfied.
There is a volume knob that I absolutely love, it's a knurled twist dial that's numbered. This also serves as the power; turn until it clicks, and the unit powers on. Turn in the opposite manner until it clicks again, and it's off.

I had an E5 that I used constantly, and loved that little thing. After buying some really good headphones and earbuds I thought I'd upgrade my amplifier too and stepped up to the E11. I was very happy with the sound quality of this product, and quickly got over the somewhat large size of it (I typically use it with an iPod Classic.) Then one day, when it was about 4 months old, the 'In' jack started acting up. At first I thought it was the cable, so swapped cables, but the problem remained. Any slight touch to the cable would drop one channel, as if the cable were broken or the connection dirty. I've done what I can to troubleshoot the issue (cleaning the jack, checking with different cables, etc) to no avail. It's past the return window here at Amazon now, and it doesn't appear as though there's any help from the Fiio website regarding customer service.

Ka-Boom! What a difference this little amp makes for your audio! Not only is the audio quality immensely improved, but you can tweak this for your listening pleasure. Basshead? Crank up that EQ, Gain and Power Output underneath the battery. Not a basshead? No problem! This amp is very versatile with the sound output to suit any kind of music.

Here is a breakdown of the features:

EQ: This alters the amount of bass that is integrated into the audio. 0 is basic amplification, closer to the original source. 1 is a little extra bass. 2 is even more bass. Even with the extra bass on 1 & 2, the sound stays balanced with no leakage into the other sound spectrums

Gain: This heightens the amount of amplification and opens up the soundstage* a little bit, great if your phones are a little flat on soundstage.
Power output (underneath the battery): this little switch allows you to increase the power of overall amplification. This means that the sound can be more powerful, but at sacrifice of battery. I have found that the Low setting works just fine for my needs.

Radial Volume knob: Pretty basic, it's a volume knob. It's really nice though excellent volume control, sturdy feel as well.

Design: Small, yet very well built. It's about a quarter smaller than my 7th Gen iPod Classic, and about as thick. It's also light weight, so it won't make a too noticeable difference to your gear.

Accessories: The E11 comes with a short 3.5mm male to male for transferring audio from the source to the amp. It's very short, as in 3" short. This is good though, because this amp is designed to "piggyback" on your portable audio source. You can use this on a laptop too, but it's primarily for portable use.
