5.0 out of 5 stars Minimalistic but full of energy, October 11, 2001

This review is from: Filament 1 (Audio CD)
Wow boys and girls, this is one of the best Cds I own in my collection. Filament 1 is a duo work bewtween Otomo Yoshihide and Sachiko M. Maybe some of you know them from other releases like the Tzadik work "Cathode" etc. Otomo who is known for making always a good, big bunch of noise has become more quiet on this recording. He is working with records and turntabels. Sachiko of course is known for her memory freed sampler. With test tones and sine waves she gets in contact with Otomo and both of them create minimalistic soundscapes of click and cut electronica without a beat.
But there's something more behind this music, a philosophical ascpect which is from great importance . Otomo and Sachiko tried to reduce music down to it's simplest way of being. Namely to it's frequency. Theres is also the idea of the non- musician. Music which is reduced to it's simplest information doesn't need a musician anymore. Therefore this recording is so exciting !
After I thought about this my feelings towards music totally changed. I see music now in a different light, thanks to Otomo and Sachiko.
