Book Description

Avery Vincent Mysteries April 15, 1998
The author of such classic Lesbian Erotica titles as The Throne Trilogy, Nighthawk and LedAstray has written her first murder mystery. Sexy, original, and unique, File Not Found introduces Avery Vincent, a beautiful, sophisticated computer consultant who is thrust into the role of cyber-detective by the execution style murder of her girlfriend Shawna.

In her quest for answers, Avery uncovers Shawna's mysterious criminal activities which begin to look more and more like corporate espionage. Lulled into complacency by the relative safety of the Internet, Avery places herself in danger of losing her own life if she continues her obsession with finding the murderer.

Set againist the hip urban backdrop of Seattle Washington, Avery pursues the truth as she herself is pursued by Hatch Salvador, an intense butch woman with an eye for the ladies. Hatch wastes no time making her move for the now-available beauty, with a surprising outcome.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge by its cover, March 30, 2000
This review is from: File Not Found, An Avery Vincent Mystery (Paperback)
I was surprised to find that this book, unlike a lot of small press books, is a great mystery. Avery Vincent's girlfriend is murdered and she becomes a computer hacker to find the killer. It's on par with mysteries published by The Naiad Press, and it also deals with rape in the lesbian community. It was a bit awkward in places, but overall it's a great beginning for a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good mystery, February 3, 2011

This was exciting and well-plotted. I could not guess the conclusion.

The sex scenes are unnecessary, and even though they do help us understand the relationship,I think they could be pared down a lot. There is a fine line between sexy and pornographic.

I have not been able to read any of Oakgrove's books prior to this and mainly picked this up because of the setting, local author, etc. The beginning was off-putting with stereotypes etc. But it was fun later in the book when Avery admits she is "superficial". She shows a self-knowledge there and in other places that is refreshing.

I'd like to see her developed more.

While I cannot rate this as one of the best books I have read, I don't regret purchasing it at all. I found the writing a bit difficult to follow at times, however, all-in-all, I enjoyed the story. Definitely multi-layered and not lacking in twists and turns.
