Excellent Review Book,

I think this book is an excellent review of common internal medicine presentations and diseases. One aspect which is particularly helpful is that it outlines the mechanism by which the disease/presentation occurs which helps you to fully understand the disease process. I would recommend it for anyone keen to review this topic and looking to supplement a more detailed text.

The clinical vignettes are quick, straight forward and are followed by 8-10 pages of good high yield summaries of what you need to know for that specific topic.

A lot of times on Medicine rotation you have a few moments to read. While Harrison's would be nice, sometimes your brain can use an easier read like this book. It still has a lot of useful facts and I really like the way the cases are layed out and organized. That said it is NOT complete, so supplement your studying, but you should know this by now.

This is a great text for reviewing some of the common symptoms patients present with. My only critique would be that I would prefer it to be organizing by organ system. I understand that the authors want it to be more life-like, not knowing what your patients going to come in with. But since my medicine clerkship is organized into sub-specialties, it would have helped me if it were organized into organ systems.

As good as it gets for Internal Medicine,
This review is from: Case Files Internal Medicine, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
It really is hard to find a good internal medicine resource that you can get through and understand all the details. This book is the best I have found for a reasonable read that actually explains the mechanisms behind the disease and treatment. It folds a case into each topic and then has a decent sized discussion about aspects such as differential diagnosis, why it is this and why it is not this, treatment, and then finishes with comprehension questions. While the questions are a bit too brief and not that difficult, they are helpful for remembering the important bits. Also, it includes a little box at the end of each section that highlights the key points. I would not replace MKSAP with this, rather I would use it with MKSAP. Then read this again for step 2, as you'll swear after reading this, you see some of it almost verbatim on step 2.Highly recommended.

All of the books in this series have been fantastic. Highly readable. Great for board review, or just to keep your mind sharp.

Love the CaseFiles series, and the internal medicine one is no different. Carry it around in your pocket and read it during your free moments.

This is great for internal medicine. If you like case based study, this is it. It's especially good because it has thorough discussions about each topic. And if you want to look up certain topics there is an index.

A quick read and a good supplement for studying for the shelf. I would recommend doing a question book in addition.
