5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Ob/Gyn shelf
This was the single best resource I used to prepare for the Ob/Gyn shelf. I only wish that I'd started using it sooner. The chapters are short --- there's a clinical vignette on the first page, followed by some "what would you do next" questions and 3-5 pages of explanation for those questions. At the end of each case is a handful of multiple choice questions. I'd...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not helpful for the shelf
Despite glowing reviews, I found this book to be of no help on the shelf. It does serve as a good quick reference for cases on the floor, and provides a reasonable broad overview, but you will need much greater detail for the shelf exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Ob/Gyn shelf, December 23, 2007

This was the single best resource I used to prepare for the Ob/Gyn shelf. I only wish that I'd started using it sooner. The chapters are short --- there's a clinical vignette on the first page, followed by some "what would you do next" questions and 3-5 pages of explanation for those questions. At the end of each case is a handful of multiple choice questions. I'd recommend doing 3 or 4 cases each night (it shouldn't take more than an hour) after reading a chapter from a main text like BluePrints. The combination of BluePrints plus Case Files worked very well for me. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Case Files Obstetrics and Gynecology, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
This book is the bomb. You should definitely go through this book at least twice before the shelf. If you supplement it with a question book like Blueprints QandA, you'll do just fine. Dont use pre-test or A&L (worthless for the shelf). Case file represented AT LEAST 70% of what was on the shelf. The book also helps you retain info better than reading any other plain text book. I will definitely use case files for other rotations as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another incredible book in the series, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Case Files Obstetrics and Gynecology, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
If you're reasonably bright, pay attention on the floor and read this book carefully, you will rock the shelf. Over half of the exam is straight out of this book, and the material is presented in such a way that it's retained. On top of that, it's a book that I actually don't hate to read (ie. blueprints). My only gripe is that it doesn't cover IUGR much at all, a topic that the shelf hit several times. This book is far and away the best way to get a quick and painless introduction to the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cases!, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Case Files Obstetrics and Gynecology, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
This book made studying a little less painful. Reading straight text just gets boring and I lose my motivation but I actually liked reading these cases and the answers are really good. This is a great book for ob rotation!

If I could do it again, I would have only used this book. I tried using First Aid for OB/GYN then this book and I just felt like this book explained everything better, was more clinically relevant, and easier to remember. It's all you need to pass the shelf exam.

This should be your main study source for your OB/GYN clerkship. Supplement it with Blueprints and you'll do great.

This is the best of the entire case files series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for practice, okay for shelf, November 12, 2010

You definitely need more info for the shelf than this book, but good if your preceptor asks you questions on "what would you do next." It made GYN more interesting, but I'm a fan of casefiles so a little biased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good review and study aid, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Case Files Obstetrics and Gynecology, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
Overall and excellent book, you can get through it very fast. It has a solid foundation for everything you need in your rotation. Lack on some terminology explanation and some info is a little out of date but it doesn't matter as the new edition is coming out. Highly recommended
