If You're Going To Listen To a Foreign Language..., September 3, 2005
I recently bought Marilou's "La Fille Qui Chante" (The Girl Who Sings) CD, and its one of the better CD's I've bought in a long while. She's usually too much for my single semester of high school French, but (most) of the music sounds great, as does her voice.
I like her because she projects a sweet, wholesome image (I have no way of knowing how truthful that image is), and she proves that you can be a young female pop star without dressing and acting like a whore.
She appears to be pretty popular in France and (eastern) Canada, but she'll never really hit the big time unless and until she releases an English CD. Not fair, but that's just how the world works in the year 2005. Hopefully, a dream of worldwide fame won't drive her to a Brittany Spears/Christinia Aguilara level of skank.
She sings a lot of good songs on the CD, like "Aimer" and "Entre Les 2 Yeux", but my favorite song of hers is "Tu Es Comme Ca", (literally, "You are like that") a powerful duet ballad she sings with this guy called Garou -- which I think means "Wolf" -- what a name.
I went to her website and saw her videos -- nice.
So how good is your French?
