Consistent and excellent,

This review is from: Fillerbunny (#3) in My Worst Book Yet! (Comic)
Johnen Vasquez returns to comics after a long hiatus with an amazingly funny book. I thought the second fillerbunny was not quite as solid as the first, but this third book is clearly my favorite. Insightful with only a hint of self-referential preachyness, J.V. is, in my humble opinion, a consistently excellent comic artist. Not for the faint of heart or the easily squeemish, his books remain groteque and fun and this latest Fillerbunny keeps going strong. He addresses the reasons for a lack of merchadise with his name on it. He makes it clear that he's doing this for his own reasons and we're along for the ride if we want to be. Its been a great ride so far and I hope he continues to put out quality material for years to come, no matter how infrequently.

The Bunny doomed to a life of entertaining.,
By Karen Loo. (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fillerbunny (#3) in My Worst Book Yet! (Comic)
Filler Bunny started as just that: a badly-drawn rabbit designed to fill an extra page of a comic book. He was used in this manner for a while until Mr. Vasquez couldn't finish a book in time for Comic Con, and thought it would be a great idea to draw a cheap mini-comic starring the bunny in a single night with no sleep.
Thus, the doomed rabbit took on a life of his own. This is actually the third Filler Bunny comic and he has certainly evolved. The Filler Bunny books are short, but highly entertaining little volumes where our artist goes a little insane, throwing out all need for complex characters and deep plot and just making the little rabbit suffer endlessly for the joy of the readers. Far more time was spent on this book than the previous two, but Vasquez maintains the improvised bouncy feel of the book and plays with the art, changing the style constantly. It's pointless, it's politically incorrect, and it's just plain fun. Check it out, and pick up the other issues while you're at it, for they are quick reads.

Delicious Hillarity for Cheap,

While this book isn't as great as some of Vasquez's other works, it is still a great little bathroom read that will have you laughing until tears shoot at dangerous speeds from your eyes; it's that good. A must for any fan or non-fan or people who have never even heard of Vasquez.

Jhonen Vasquez rules,

If you like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee and Vasquez's other stuff, you will also dig FillerBunny, which features his usual demented side comments and sick subject matter. Not for the young and/or innocent.

Collectively using a mass of bodies made up of pizza delivery boys to draw a frame - genius AND practical.

Pain and Suffering,

Hokay, so if any of you decided that Filler Bunny numbuh two sucked, so you shouldn't buy three, think again. I thought it was a very creative short-short story. It flips between Filler's doomy life and Jhonen arguing with "Chief". Although the graphics aren't nrearly as great as anything in JTHM or Squee!, I thought it was really funny and definately worth three dollars. Only four stars because most people buy this stuff for the graphics.

Not his best work, a little lazily drawn, but still....cannot resist the work of Jhonen Vasquez! Filler Bunny is a miserable science experiment who constantly gets tortured for your amusement. But it's cute and funny

Caught By Suprise!,

Jhonen's work is brilliantly schizophrenic, and, in this latest installment of Filler Bunny, Jhonen finally seems to channel all of his talent into what has historically been nonsense and scribbles. The artwork is fantastic, the characters/situations are awful and hilarious (see Rape-bo), and an interesting, progressive theme gives the story a direction.
This is possibly THE funniest thing that Jhonen has published, and well done to boot. And for $3? Come on.

If you actually need a pat on the back saying, "It's okay to read this book. It's okay to laugh at a cute bunny being tortured, an aborted fetus who just kind of...sit there, oozing, adding nothing to the world other than just being disgusting, that it's okay to laugh at the darker stuff of humanity, you get it. The Author closes this chapter of Fillerbunny with a narrative that explains why it's okay to laugh. Despite the last third of this book being rather preachy (in the author's words), this is the best Fillerbunny yet, and it ranks among the best works of Jhonen Vasquez. Fans of his Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or his other works should pick up this book right now, especially since it's dirt cheap. I have read it and re-read it at least a dozen times in the last month. Go buy it.
