This review is from: Filles Uniques (Original French Version - No English Options) (DVD)
The film's plot is as what is described in Amazon.com's review.Sylvie Testud is brilliant as the kleptomaniac Tina who can't resist "free" expensive designer shoes.Although she comes from a poor background, she knows more about carrying oneself with class and confidence than the magistrate, played by Sandrine Kiberlain, who's also great here. She plays the uptight magistrate, Carole, with a hint of a rebel underneath all that responsible demeanor, as can be seen when they both go out shoe shopping. In that moment the shoe's on the other foot as the criminal teaches the officer of the law what is the right and the wrong thing to do!As you can see, it's something of a comedy.Vincent Lindon has some funny lines playing the surgeon husband of the magistrate. He's somewhat of a carefree person.Talk about opposites attract! Francois Berleand is funny as the gambler who informs them about some illegal activities of the Annecy casino. They go there and build the case with the help of Tina. The case is jeopardized, however, when the casino forces the gambler to change his story and the evidence is not what they seemed to be.Carole, who is blamed for all this, now has to make the case stick and clear her name, again with the help of Tina. And the film ends at that.Something of a cliffhanger.I didn't quite like that, but still I find it all an enjoyable 80 minutes.Have I said that I love Sylvie Testud yet?One word of warning though, the French dvd has no subtitles at all, so brush up on your Francais.I myself didn't understand some of the dialogue. The disc has deleted scenes; an audio commentary in French by the director,Pierre Jolivet, and the two lead actors; an interview with the crew, and notes, on the film's music; some music tracks, the trailer and last but not least the alternate end credits that tie up the loose ends as extras.
