About the Author

When not at the movies, Laremy can be found walking his dog, writing angry letters to the management of the Miami Dolphins, and attempting to find a recipe for the perfect lasagna. Having seen the inner workings of Hollywood, the studio system, film festivals, and celebrity interviews, Laremy was compelled to share his anecdotes with the world. He’s hoping the world enjoys them.

Honestly, bought the book to support Laremy and thought I would skim through it. Started reading and saw no need to stop, it's an easy read and I found myself laughing out loud. Enjoyed Laremy's voice and learning a bit more about the world of criticism.

I especially love Laremy's early work and he continues to be one of the funniest and most insightful critics in the business. His writings at Film.com and podcasts at Rope of Silicon are essential for anyone who enjoys this book or quality entertainment in general. Do yourself a favor, buy this book and use it as a starter for enjoying Laremy on his variety of outlets.

Laremy Legel is the imminently likable and endlessly clever co-host of the top notch podcast, Brad and Laremy on Movies. He has written this remarkable book detailing the ins and outs, ups and downs of being a film critic and you should buy it! Not only is it very interesting in how it goes about relating the day to day grind of being an actual, licensed and working film critic, it is very funny and well written. Laremy has a splendidly wry wit which he uses to make Film Critic a breezy, conversational read that will put a smile on your face.

If you have any interest in film criticism, why it's necessary and how it works (and sometimes how it doesn't), this is the book for you. Or if you're just a fan of Laremy's casually charismatic presence on the multiple podcasts he guests on such as the Filmdrunk Frotcast, this is an excellent way to get a healthy does of that as well.

The bottom line is, Laremy is a smart, funny dude who has things to say and does that very well. This is a great book and you should buy it.

I feel odd reviewing a book about reviewing. So instead I'll equivocate and write a Haiku:

If you are at all interested in film, film criticism, or writing I highly recommend this book. It provides an intelligent and funny look at all those topics. Laremy Legel, as usual, crushes it and makes this book well worth your time.

Laremy wears his love for movies on his sleeve... Kind of like he wears Mike's chili on the front of his shirt. He's engaging, entertaining, opinionated and just plain fun. Read the book.

Just as with his reviews provided from the various sources he utilizes, LL's book is well constructed, thoughtful and friendly in its delivery.

Equally, his style is as informal and informative as his podcasts (all 257 different ones he frequents).

I can't recommend this highly enough if you love either movies or good writing. Ideally, of course, you'd love both. In which case, here you go. The perfect book for you.
