A real mixed bag...,

This review is from: Film Musicals: Till the Clouds Roll By (Audio CD)
On the surface, this CD looks excellent...but on closer expection it does disappoint, because it only features a handful of numbers from the soundtrack of TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY. A mere eight selections from the film are here (thankfully among them Judy Garland's "Who?" and "Look for the Silver Lining", Virginia O'Brien's wry take on "Life Upon the Wicked Stage" and June Allyson's darling "Cleopatterer").
But where's Van Johnson's "I Won't Dance", Angela Lansbury's "How'd ya Like to Spoon with Me?", and Frank Sinatra's "Old Man River", amongst several other missing pieces? This is like buying an incomplete jigsaw! On the plus-side, this disc features (as part of it's selection of bonus Jerome Kern pieces) all three of the major songs from Deanna Durbin's Technicolor musical CAN'T HELP SINGING ("Can't Help Singing", "More and More" and "Any Moment Now"); and it's actually quite rare to have all three on the same disc, so at least that's something positive. Recommended only if you see it for a decent price. [Prism Leisure Corp. PLATCD 1341] |
