Book Description

Cambridge Film Classics June 19, 2000
The Films of Mike Leigh is the first critical study of one of the most important and eccentric directors of British independent filmmaking. Although active since 1971, Leigh has only come to the attention of an international audience in the 1990s through films such as Secrets and Lies, and Career Girls. The authors examine Leigh's working method and films in the intellectual and social contexts in which they were created. All of Leigh's major box office successes are analyzed, interpreted, and shown to be among the finest examples of cinema.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ray Carney does it again!, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Films of Mike Leigh (Cambridge Film Classics) (Paperback)
Another amazing work from Mr. Carney. He has quickly established himself as not only the most important voice in american Independent film, but now on the international scene as well. Let's all hope he tackles the other forgotten genuises. The Bressons, the Ozus, the Tarkovskys. The book taught me a lot about life.

I always knew that films were cool, but it wasn't until I met Ray Carney that I realized they could save my soul.
