Filson Padded Laptop Bag/Briefcase - BROWN

I've been using Filson clothing and bags for some time. The size and design of this briefcase are great for commute and travel, before the padded bag was available I had the non-padded version.

The quality concerns I have are related to the shoulder strap implementation on both bags. On the first bag, carrying a normal-size laptop plus power cord and light reading material, the stitching of one of the loop gussets - to which the strap clips - came apart and separated from the bag after only 1-2 years use. On the new padded bag, carrying a netbook plus adapter and light reading material, the rivets holding the strap-end loop around the clip broke off after less than 1 month of use, this resulted in the bag falling off my shoulder and hitting the ground, damaging my netbook.

The leather and canvas used for these bags is really durable and makes for a great briefcase. But the design of the shoulder strap and how it attaches to the bag is very sub-standard, far below the quality I've come to expect from Filson. Use the bag without the strap, it will serve you well. If you decide to use the shoulder strap, I recommend you not carry a laptop or anything else that can be damaged if/when the strap fails.

This product is exactly what I would expect from Filson. The quality of the materials and workmanship ensure I'll be carrying this bag for years to come.

The bag is very high quality and well made. My only issue with it is that it is very heavy, even when empty.
