4.0 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of Hornby.., September 8, 2002

A great original novel that reminded me a bit of Nick Hornby and Nick Earls. Very funny and clever and definitely worth the read.

This review is from: Fin (Paperback)
James Dellingpole has a very odd sense of humor- but he's a very funny writer. Fin is the story of a writer in his 30s obsessed with sharks. He doesn't like them. In fact, he's terrified of them, and does everything he can do to avoid them. But he's absolutely convinced that it's his fate to be eaten by one, and this curious belief ends up shaping his life, and his relationships, in unexpected ways.

Dellingpole's description of 30-somethings in modern day England is sharp and witty, and rings true to life- something like Martin Amis, if Amis was more likable and a lot funnier. Or a young, drug-addled Anthony Burgess. Something along that line. Regardless, it's a funny book and a good tale.
