Book Description

Avalon Mystery October 30, 2005
Handsome, young country rock star, Buford Doakes, is found drowned in the hot tub of his hotel suite after a late-night party. With the deck in disarray and Doakes' famous diamond studded Stetson still intact, foul play is obvious but his image as a wholesome Texas boy is shattered.

Amateur sleuth Liz Rooney again matches wits with the man in her life, NYPD Detective Ike Eichle. Together, they unravel the sordid details of Buford's last night of parties and hot tubbing. Who wants Buford dead, and why? A jealous secret bride? A disgruntled groupie? While delivering into the long list of potential suspects and motives, Liz comes up with some questions, and a few vital clues, that help crack the case. At the same time Ike comes up with a question that seals their relationship.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

That O'Neill also writes romances will come as no surprise to readers of her latest Liz Rooney mystery: the story definitely focuses more on relationships than suspense. That might not be a bad thing, however, as the mystery of who killed young country superstar Buford Doakes is less interesting than Liz's relationship with her NYPD boyfriend, Ike. Liz has left her Staten Island home for a weekend getaway to a resort in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains--the same one where Doakes is headlining. Accompanying her is best-friend Sophie, a new member of the NYPD who's engaged to fellow-cop Ralph. Not big fans of Doakes, Sophie and Liz are somewhat surprised to be invited to a preconcert party in his suite. Curiosity wins out and they attend, only to leave when Doakes' sleazy manager herds all the girls into the hot tub for a photo shoot. After Doakes is found murdered the next morning, the girls begin to investigate and are soon joined by Ralph and Ike. A pleasant outing for fans of lite mystery. Jenny McLarin

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Mystery, January 28, 2010
This review is from: Final Note (Avalon Mystery) (Hardcover)
Amateur sleuth Liz Roony and her best friend NYPD cop Sophie Pulaski have won a free weekend in the Pocono's at the luxurious Lorenzo's resort. They plan on taking it easy, getting in a little hiking, doing some serious relaxing. However that night Buford Doakes, a famous country singer is found dead in his hot tub, murdered. There are suspects galore and the time is short for Liz and Sophie to solve the case, but fortunately Liz's boyfriend and Sophie's fiancée, boy NYPD cops show up so the local sheriff has plenty of help with the murder case. This is a quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked the characters, liked the mystery, enjoyed the story and I'll come back again when Ms. O'Neil delivers her next Liz Roony mystery.
