5.0 out of 5 stars Review - Final Bearing by G. Wallace
This is a good read. The plot continues through several characters to culminate into the final riviting scenes. There is enough technical information to keep the interest of those who truly understand those elements, but that same information does not interfere with the enjoyment of the story for those less technically knowledgeable. 2.0 out of 5 stars Knowledgeable but unmotivational
I like these writers; they are reasonably efficient, for the genre, and are clear about what they intend without subterfuge. This book is an action thriller, meaning that while there are some mysterious elements to it, we the readers know the basics of its development and thus have the pleasure of watching characters adapt to it. Characters... well, they're a slight bit...

5.0 out of 5 stars Review - Final Bearing by G. Wallace, May 7, 2003

This is a good read. The plot continues through several characters to culminate into the final riviting scenes. There is enough technical information to keep the interest of those who truly understand those elements, but that same information does not interfere with the enjoyment of the story for those less technically knowledgeable. In fact, I learned a great deal of the atmosphere surrounding the lives of our brave military personel by reading this book.
The story deals with the good/evil struggles of our lives here on this planet through the actions of our military and the underbelly of society from which they protect us.
I do recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Submarine memories, September 1, 2003
By
Dennis Magarrell (Syracuse, New York) - See all my reviews
I am a retired Navy Submariner who now lives in New York. It was exciting to read about so many instances and details that had the realism only a fellow submariner could express, even down to the mannerisms and lingo. It is also apparent that the author has been to the places cited in the book. Once again, having been to the Puget Sound and San Diego, it brought back memories. The combination of submarine realism, location facts, and the weaving back and forth of the story line between different scenes and settings kept my interest, and kept me wanting to read more. Great book for a relaxing yet interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move Over Tom Clancey, April 24, 2004
FINAL BEARING is a real page turner. Make sure you have the time to stick with this intriguing "get the bad guys" book. I'm still wondering what happened to the two trucks that got away. I liked this better than Clancey's submarine stories as the scenes are more authentic and complete in detail. I almost got sea sick reading of the influence of heavy seas upon the men. Sure would make a great movie! I'm looking forward to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An adrenaline pumping adventure, July 27, 2003
By
These guys know how to write a book. Their combination of writing talent and real world experience produced an adventure tale that had my heart pounding and my fingers turning the pages in anticipation. There are drug terrorists to hate, brave men to pull for, victims to fear for, and the future of our country riding on the outcome. The writing style and the authentic details give you a story world you can really experience. There are no cardboard characters here, no would-be adventurers. This is the real thing. After reading this book I feel like I've been there and done it. And I'm ready for the next mission, Commander. Just let me get myself in shape first.

5.0 out of 5 stars All The Action One Book Can Handle, June 9, 2003
Final Bearing, by George Wallace and Don Keith, truly is a rip-snorter! The authors packed a lot of exciting action into every page. Combining submarines and other craft with spies, drugs, and jungle warfare was a potent formula mixed up with a great air of authenticity. I hope it sells well, and I can hardly wait for the movie. But the book jacket needs a government warning: "Do not read this book if you have heart trouble!" Frank S. Virden, Captain, USN (Ret.)

See book description above.

With the knowledge of George Wallace and the writing skill of Don Keith you get an adventure well worth the read. This novel covers a lot of territory. From the ins and outs of submarines to the covert ops of the War on Drugs. Well worth your time. I look forward to this duos next novel.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed !, June 26, 2003
By A Customer
Loved the details of submarine life and also work done by the Seals. You could see and smell the submarine in this book. I would love to hear more about submarines and what the U.S. is doing with it's current fleet of boats.

I don't think I have ever read a book that includes so many different aspects of intrigue and action taking place around the world.

Hope this duo writes another.

5.0 out of 5 stars High expectations met, June 23, 2003
By A Customer
I don't usually take the time to write about the books I read for pleasure, but this one got to me in a unique way. I really felt I was there, every step of the way on an adventure that surprised and thrilled me. The authors succeeded in hooking me in from the very first, then keeping my attention for the entire book, quite an accomplishment because I'm a very demanding reader of fiction. Congrats to Messers. Wallace and Keith, and I hope they write more together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Believable plot...great action...good read, May 7, 2003
By
Seems like so many technothrillers are so farfetched that they are almost ridiculous. FINAL BEARING has all the elements of suspense, action, and military hardware, but the authors do a good job of convincing us this is real stuff. They put the reader in the middle of the action and describe the technology in a believable way without trying to tell us how to build a submarine from scratch! On the negative side, there are so many story lines and characters, the reader could lose his place if he puts the book aside for a few days, but the plot and action are good enough to keep that from happening, I think. By the way, the descriptions of the HALO jump and the run up Puget Sound by Spadefish are absolutely gripping.

5.0 out of 5 stars White-knuckled reading, September 17, 2003
By A Customer
Wallace and Keith manage to take the action from the jungles of South America to the streets of Seattle without missing a beat, but the best scenes take place within the confines of the submarine. Never has the pressure, camraderie, and very real danger of daily life on a sub been conveyed so fondly and so well. You don't have to be a submariner or even a fan of this genre to find this book thoroughly engrossing.
