5.0 out of 5 stars A New Favorite!
I was a little leery about purchasing this book after reading several of the "1 star" reviews here on Amazon.com - but since I've enjoyed all of his other books, I decided to go ahead and give it a try - and I am REALLY glad that I did!

I found this book to be both exciting and insightful - showing that John is an excellent writer, whether it be of fiction...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...Very Disappointed
I am a big supporter of Mr Edward's work and his work has touched me. So this is a hard thing to write.
I am disappointed with this book.

Although the story does spin an interesting tale. And it will make a very good movie- I'm disappointed. My favorite John Edward book is
"What if god where the sun."

The back of "what if" teased...

If you are at all interested in the topics of John's other books, I think you will thoroughly enjoy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent First Novel, October 26, 2004
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
This mystery reminded me of some of the Tony Hillerman stories. That is, it's a mystery in its own right, but there is also a supernatural aspect that in innertwined with the story.

This story follows the lives of eight New Yorkers in a post 9/11 world. Their lives converge in a mid-town Manhattan tunnel bringing out love, faith, good and evil to answer the questions:

Does everything happen for a reason, and
Do our loved ones guide us from the Other side.

John Edward and Natasha Stoynoff have written together in the past but on New Age books. This is their first attempt at a novel, and it's a good one. I suspect that this is just the first of a series that will establish them among the well known practictioners of the art.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Age meets Thriller in Final Beginnings, August 18, 2004

Meet Katherine Haywood, psychic medium in this new novel by authors John Edward and Natasha Stoynoff.
Follow Katherine and an unlikely group that include a hard bitten policeman, a powerful mogul and his seemingly timid son, a skeptical journalist, and a man desperate to save his daughter while still mourning the loss of his beloved wife.
I finished the book in record time and couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
The authors deal with the harsh realities of a post 9/11 world, while lifting the veil between this world and the next to remind us just how powerful love can be.
Whether you are hooked on the thriller genre or your interests lie in what life is like on the "other side", you will want to read Final Beginnings. Ultimately, we all want a good read, and the authors have given us just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blew me away!!!!!!!!, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
When my wife -- she's a big fan of psychic books and I'm more of a Dan Brown thriller guy -- ordered this book on-line, I thought, "Great, there goes more of my hard-earned cash on some new-age nonsense." Well, was I ever wrong! I picked it up and was ready with a snide remark, but as soon as I read the first sentence I was hooked. I honestly couldn't put it down until I'd finished the entire novel, a definite first for me. It was an amazing ride from start to finish. I love thrillers and this is a top-notch page-turner, but what really kept me riveted was the theme of losing your faith when you lose someone you love, something I've been struggling with ever since 9/11. This book was not only wildly entertaining; it really hit a nerve with me. Since I put it down I've been questioning why I'm here and what my true purpose in life really is ... and I'm definitely not what you'd call a philosophical guy. This book really exceeded all my expectations and did something few novels have ever done -- it moved me. The hardest part about reading it was keeping it away from my wife until I'd finished reading the last page! Thumbs up to John Edward and Natasha Stoynoff for delivering a thought provoking and perfectly blended spiritual thriller. I give it 10 stars out of 5 and sure hope there's a sequel in the works.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
You don't have to be a new-ager to find something to like about Final Beginnings. John Edward and Natasha Stoynoff have crafted a taut thriller about a post 9/11 world. The cast of characters take turns stepping foward as hero or heroine, which keeps the drama moving foward at a brisk pace. What they ultimatily share is a willingness to sacrifice in the name of love, and eyes wide open to the existence of the "other side".
Put Final Beginnings on your list of Must Reads!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...Very Disappointed, August 19, 2004
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
I am a big supporter of Mr Edward's work and his work has touched me. So this is a hard thing to write.
I am disappointed with this book.

Although the story does spin an interesting tale. And it will make a very good movie- I'm disappointed. My favorite John Edward book is
"What if god where the sun."

The back of "what if" teased "final beginnings" and I have been waiting years for this book to come out. The anticipation was high because "WHAT If..." moved me with its writing style and poetic look of life on this and the other side. I give what if out as gifts for people who need a lift of support.

There is a different writing style here. It screams of the senational style that "After life" had(minus the chapters that edward spoke of his mom, dad and justin) with it celebrity readings.
I contribute that to Mr Edward's New writing partner
Natasha Stoynoff. I am sure she is a very talented writer for people magazine. I will bet she will be a great Screen play writer for the Movie version of this book! However, I miss John's writing which you can really feel in What if and in "One Last Time"
Please come back to us John in that way. Please.

Final Beginnings feels like it was purely written with the intention for it to be made into a movie and not to move other about what John does.

Writing this is hard but it is how I really feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The metaphysial world meets the suspense dramatic genre, September 28, 2004
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
I thought that John could never ever top "What if god were the sun" and although it is still my favorite....Final Beginnings certainly accomplishes many things.
It entertains in that it has drama and suspense, it teaches as it shows you how a psychic medium can get messages and how they receive them to help others and finally this book will inspire you.....there is so more to look forward to after we pass and how we choose to live our lives here will certainly assist us as we make that journey to the otherside.... Thank you John...AND thank you Natasha! It is so exciting to see how your energy in this book has helped Mr Edward grow and expand his work in the publishing world.....Wonderful!

3.0 out of 5 stars A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING AND I'M NOT EVEN HALF WAY THROUGH, September 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Final Beginnings (Hardcover)
It seems to be a little disappointing. They skipped views in the beginning of the book. It went from Katherine's point of vew to other people's point of view. Not my favorite way of reading books. I like to stay consistent all throughout the whole book. I don't know how the rest is going to turn out, but its not one of my favorites. I recommend John Edward's book called After Life: Answers From The Other Side. That was more touching to me than this one was. But everyone has a different opinion.
