5.0 out of 5 stars A long and heavy kiss, September 9, 2000
This review is from: Final Chapter (Audio CD)
Last and final release spanning the 10 yr career of this neo gothic-metal band from Bochum,West Germany. It's a mix of trakcs taken from 3 previous albums as well as b sides and the last recordings before their split in 99'. This cd shows a marked evolution frfom the band's early days as aspiring goth metal pioneers on the Nephilim tip in the german underground scene. Their sound is a modern late 90's blend of gothic sensibilities with metal overtones. Very dynamic approach to songwriting with an emphasis on the uptempo. A singer with such passion and vibrato and what a scream! He should be giving lessons to other vocalists in the genre who sound a little weak next to him...mind you he also bodybuilds(ha!)...crunchy rhythym guitar...romantic keyboards and very tight and thick bass and drum grooves. Catchy, melodic, and powerful overall. You won't find any organs or baroque dirges on here as the band tend to shy away from cliches...lyrics lean toward the introspective and personal...The cd opener "Mystery Land" is an 80's based goth metal elctronic piece with an atmospheric club feel to it topped by gorgeous vocals...another highlight is the cover of "You Spin Me Round"..random yet well executed...highlights from the middle years of the band's career are "One Good Reason" with it's Neph leaning and explosive chord changes as well as "Follow Me" and their climactic cover of Grace Jones' "Slave to the Rhythym". Highly recommended to all into dark underground whether it be metal, electro, goth, it's is a crossover of it's own...Too heavy to be goth, too romantic to be metal, too personal to be cliched...A+++ Poseurs beware!
