3.0 out of 5 stars It's more about INXS as a band than about Hutch as a person., November 19, 1999
By A Customer
Of course, it was interesting for me as for an INXS fan but truthfully I expected something more. I have to admit, I was looking for more about his family, friends, his personal intrests, about his childhood. I also wanted a whole, complex interview of Hutch. Instead I got a huge one of Kirk. Anyway if you want to know about Hutch as a member of INXS- this is for you. But if you're looking for Hutch as "just a man" you'll be disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, July 11, 2006
I had read mixed reviews of this book before picking it up, but I thought that I would give it a try nonetheless, as there isn't that much material available about Michael Hutchence as of yet. I almost went with the book by Michael's mom and half-sister but figured that their book would likely be biased.

In regards to Mike Gee's book, I know more about Michael Hutchence than this guy, and I certainly never had the privilege of interviewing or ever meeting the man. Gee, for some reason, has used this book, that should be about Michael Hutchence, to showcase his knowledge of other bands in Australia and his other random experiences. Why? I want to read about Michael Hutchence, not him.

In all honesty, this book is hardly about Michael Hutchence at all, and you certainly don't come away with a much better understanding of Michael's final days, or what may or may not have led up to his untimely demise. This was a major disappointment and the worst "biography" that I have ever read. There is no insight in this book at all. I would give it a rating of 0 stars, but that's not an option.

Now, I am just hoping that a more thorough and dedicated biographer comes along to do some justice to the memory and achievements of Michael Hutchence and INXS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad to own this book, April 25, 2000
If you are an INXS/Hutch fan, you really must own this book. Depending on how big of a fan you are, you probably already know the contents of the book. If you are simply interested in dead rock stars, as it were, this book is a page turner to live vicariously through the author. If Mike Gee reads my review, please write a "sequel" We fans are hungry for more.
