What's new in Version 7

The next step in the evolution of screenwriting software. Final Draft is now an even more powerful writing tool that allows you to write and see your script in a variety of new ways.

The Panels System
Like most writers, you probably need to keep a lot of things at the front of your mind while you’re writing: How does the Act 3 argument scene you’re writing today connect to the argument scene in Act 1? Where should the first-kiss scene go? How many scenes are in the chase sequence? What are the plot points in Act 3? Like no other screenwriting program, Final Draft 7 can show you what you need to see while you’re writing.

You can split your screen into separate panels and view your script pages in one panel and index cards in the other. If you enable the new Navigator panel [a consolidated, linear, top-to-bottom list of the Scene Headings] you can simply double-click on a scene heading and Final Draft will jump to that scene in the script panel.

Or view Page 3 of the script in one panel and Page 66 in another, side-by-side or stacked for easy viewing.

New Index Cards
For years Final Draft users have relied on the Scene Navigator as a quick map of their script. We’ve kept this tried-and-true tool but added a whole new dimension of functionality: Now every card has TWO sides and you can write on one of them!

The Script side works just the way you’re used to in Scene Navigator but the Summary side lets you type in development ideas, notes, sequence or act markers, comments, locations, blocking... anything you need to build and organize your story. And the text you type into the Summary Cards will appear as under the Scene Headings in the Navigator, so you can always see where you are in the story.

To put it simply, brainstorming, structuring, writing and rewriting your script will be a lot easier when you have with this comprehensive, interactive overview at your command.

Okay, so I found out that Final Draft is the Industry Standard in Tinsel Town. Great. I'll buy one. Check out who uses it on their website. Wow! But the software alone doesn't tell us, say, what goes where and why in a screenplay. It just lays there, blank, with blinking cursor... waiting for some brilliance to be entered by me. Enter Syd Field. I have his books on screenwriting and, although the DVD is a little 'talking head'-like, it did make me understand more about the craft of screenwriting, like plot, story structure, action points and character arcs - the things that make up a really great movie. Take notes while watching the DVD! It made me better and less insecure about taking the movie idea out of my head and Final Draft is a cool tool that formats for you and types things you type alot for you. An excellent combination!! Highly recommend.

Final Draft is the industry standard for scriptwriters. The software is intuitive and easy to work with. It does all the formatting work for you and is loaded with templates from different types of scripts (Movies, Movie of the Week, TV series, Sitcoms...) even well known TV series like 24 - if you want to try writing for those guys. Smart entries remember scene headings, characters and many time saving information. You can print character reports to hand out to your actors, scene reports and track your actor's lines throughout your script.

But seriously folks, what piece of software would be worth anything without knowledge what can use it for. That's where Syd Field's workshop comes in handy. Field is a very respected scriptwriter and an even better mentor. The workshop takes you through the creative process of writing a story, giving life to your characters, letting the dialogue flow through them... in few words: using this blueprint to create a great script. Syd Field's knowledge and expert advices alone are worth the retail price, but you get the software as a bonus.

This package is a must have. You really feel good about spending that much money because it's a good package. I bought mine from thewritersstore.com and I got even more stuff for $199.
This package is a great tool for all screenwriters. If you are having your doubts like I was about which software to get, just go with final draft and be happy.
I could rave all day about this software, but the time you can spend reading this you could have already bought the thing. Go buy it.
