Marc Maron makes Richard Lewis sound like a Hallmark greeting card. --theseriouscomedysite(dot)com, May 11, 2009

Product Description

Marc Maron knows there's no sense in pussy-footing around. Life is nasty, brutish, and short, and you might as well get a laugh out of it. Punchline magazine calls it "heartbreaking comedy," but at Stand Up! Records we prefer to think of Maron as a ridiculously funny and insightful observational comic who's just not afraid to show his tender underbelly. On his new, 2-CD live album recorded on his "Scorched Earth" tour, Maron owns up to the sad realities of his personal life, admitting that he finds comfort in living with four things that don't even like him (his beloved cats, including PTSD-ridden LaFonda) and had a little "Good for you!" moment when his second wife left him. At the same time, he happily engages his audience with the shrewd, story-based comedy that's formed the backbone of his previous records, taking on absurdities like the internet culture that might actually like him better if he just stood on the stage, crying and peeing. A seasoned performer who's already had a one-man, Off-Broadway show, made two CDs, and been the most frequent comic guest ever on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Maron knows how to approach an audience, expertly keeping them suspended somewhere between "That was so f*cking funny!" and "I hope he's okay." Like a latter-day Woody Allen, Maron embraces his insecurities, but always stops just short of the tortured artist. He doesn't seek pity, only commiseration, laughter, and an honest acknowledgement of the absolutely ludicrous human condition-oh, and maybe a girl without daddy issues, if it's not too much to ask.

I only recently discovered Marc Maron's comedy via his very popular WTF Podcast, available on Itunes for free. Sign up cheapskates, you won't be disappointed.

Anyway, this CD is great. In fact all three of his cd's are very funny. Had a bad day at work? Don't go home angry! Crank this baby to 10 and arrive home with a smile on your face. I'm sure your wife's face would appreciate it. Seriously, don't hit her anymore. I'm watching you.

P.S. Marc is starting to tour a lot more. Go see him. Bring him some baked goods. He'd appreciate it.

Peace

A lot of people compare Marc to Bill Hicks, and there are some similarities. But he's not a Bill Hicks ripoff like so many others in his profession. I swear I saw Bill Maher do a full 10 minutes covering Hicks material. But not here, true believers. Marc Maron is fresh, real, and original. I laughed, and realized this guy is saying it how it is, and that's why you might have never heard of him. This 2 disc set has it all though, so it's not perfect. It's two shows at the same place, two nights in a row, with completely different material. Do yourself a favor and get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love him!!!, July 3, 2011
Marc Maron is a fantastic comedian!!

I was first introduced to him through being a fan of the late and great comedian, Bill Hicks, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer in the mid 90's. Although I'm only 25 years old (which means I was just 7 when he passed) his legend still lives on for me and many others.

Marc Maron reminds me very much of Bill but with his own unique style. If you're a Bill Hicks fan, or not, and enjoy intelligent, thought provoking comedy with a conscience, then watch Marc Maron! He'll make you think and laugh at the same time, that's never a bad thing.

(Also, visit [...]a legacy project of Bill Hicks and his childhood friend, Kevin Booth)
