The Buster Sword, August 10, 2006

I. My Review
-=-=-=-=-=-=-
This is it people, You've been looking for the exact replica for Clouds Buster Sword and you got it. Not to mention THIS IS the best price you'll find for an accurate re-creation of the Buster Sword.
The sword is well made and IS able to be used in combat/practice situations, Other replicas on here are not. Due to the Full Tang this sword can take a few blows and keep going. The Handle and Hilt are both well crafted and sturdy, The blade on mine is of good quality and came to me kinda dull (buy yourself a sharpening tool).
I must admit I was abit suprized about the weight. If you hold it stright up it feels somewhere around 17 - 20 lbs. but as soon as you start pointing that massive blade out word the weight doubles.. Possibly even triples. With that said this is an excellent sword for training, Learn to weild this and other swords will feel like feathers in your hands.
Final Fantasy 7 fans & Collectors do not miss out, I myself own a much more expensive version of the Buster Sword and it still does not compare to the sheer size of this beast. This sword is going to sell out quick so buy while you can!

III. History/Story
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The Buster Sword was made famous in Final Fantasy VII, in which it served as the primary weapon of the game's protagonist, Cloud Strife. However Final Fantasy VII is not the first RPG to contain the Buster sword, which also appears in Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals as well as Lufia and the Fortress of Doom.
In the game's story line, Cloud takes the Buster Sword from his fallen friend, Zack, who obtained it from his mentor Angel. Zack gave a comatose Cloud his weapon prior to being shot to death by Shin-Ra troops while trying to protect Cloud. Because of this exchange, Cloud later places the weapon over Zack's grave in his honor. In the game, it cannot be bought or sold, and is the weapon used by Cloud during the game's cut-scenes. The Buster Sword's most distinguishing characteristic is its impractical size. It has become an iconic element of Cloud's appearance, and within some RPG fan circles, it has become synonymous with any impractical oversized sword in video games or anime.

Better for display, not battle ready, December 14, 2006
When I first recieved this sword through the mail it was like the best thing ever. Looked exactly like the one in Final Fantasy and it was huge. There was really nothing wrong with it until that one day when I happened to drop it while cleaning it. Then I found out that the blade isn't actually connect to the handle and the guard. When the sword fell on the ground the top part of the guard that covered the inside got dented inward and it was loose. I moved the piece up and figuered out that the blade actually moved up. I looked inside under the top sheet of metal that was covering the guard and I realized that there was a round piece of wood inside the guard going down to the handle and that they just glued the piece of wood there and shoved the blade into it then glued the top part of the guard onto the wood to cover everything else. I pushed the blade back in to where it was before, but I don't think I'll be swinging it around anymore because you can't really risk it flying off and killing someone... It better off if you buy a case/stand or make one and stick it in there for display because one drop can ruin it all, but there really isn't a better replica beside this one.
EDIT: Had someone with the same problem and they didn't want their sword anymore and we decided to take it apart and have a closer look. The handle of the sword is completely hollow same with the guard. In the handle there is a cylindric piece of wood that is shoved down the handle and glued with wood or super glue to the sides of the handle on the inside. The Blade extends all the way down in full size to the end of the guard then it narrows down to around the width of the handle which is around a little over an inch.. the blade also gets thinner and is around 1-2 millimeters thick compared to the thick part of the blade on the top which is 5 milimeters thick... for people who don't understand this take a look at one of your regular small knives that you use to cut food and etc with. That should be around 1 millimeter. That part of the blade extends almost all the way down the piece of wood and the handle. I REALLY wouldn't consider this full tang but they twisted the meaning around. The blade isn't welded onto the handle or the guard. So they're really like 2 separate pieces. Pretty cheap if you ask me....

ff7 buster sword, October 25, 2006
yeah, if you're looking for an authentic replica of cloud's sword, this is the one to get... don't go near that $44 one... it doesn't even look like it for god's sake.. but -this- one is awesome... as far as it not being sharp, i wouldn't necessarily call it dull.. if you swung this thing at somebody, given the sheer weight of it, it would still cut. i guarantee it.. not to mention break whatever bone it hit.. besides that, when i first got it out of the box, and set it on the carpet, the point went through the carpet and tapped the hardwood underneath. and that's just from it's own weight, not pressing down or anything.. but come on, it's really not feasible to use this as a weapon.. it's way too long, wide and heavy.. it's more of a display item for fans of the game.. albeit a really well made one.
