Product Description

Product Description

Connected gameplay expands the Final Fantasy universe in an epic role-playing game unlike any other. In a world ravaged by plague, the people depend on a blessed crystal. To sustain it, the Crystal Caravan is sent out every year to collect Mirula Droplets. This year, you and up to three friends must go. As you take a long and perilous trek through a wilderness overrun by monsters, you'll fight through an epic role-playing game with the story and graphic quality players have come to expect from the Final Fantasy series. This bundle includes one link cable to connect your GameCube to a Game Boy Advance system (additional link cables sold separately). With each player using a Game Boy Advance as a controller, your team can move, fight, and solve puzzles together on the TV screen, while what each character sees and hears is secretly transmitted to each player's Game Boy Advance.

While much of the gameplay in Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles involves hacking and slashing through colorful monsters, the game is essentially about teamwork. You'll have to communicate constantly with your teammates to let them know what your Game Boy Advance display is telling you, and vice versa. With its impressive innovation and action-packed gameplay, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles shines as one of the most engrossing titles available for Nintendo GameCube. Cycle through weapons and magical powers, check radar and sensors, and communicate with your companions--work together or the world is doomed!

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Goods and Bads, June 12, 2004

Okay. If you're just reading reviews for the GOOD of the game, please move on. Otherwise, keep reading.
I give this game a 3 star rating b/c of this:

Graphics - 5 stars. This can't be beaten! The graphics are awesome!

Music - 5 stars. Great music!

Gameplay - 2 stars. Hey, sorry, but it just ain't worth it! Single player gets mad boring, and if you want some real fun, you gotta be rich, cause mult. player needs GBA for everyone.

Controls - 4 stars. Very easy to get controls! Almost too easy ...

Plot - 2 stars. Personally, the plot sucks. No real plot that gets you goin, like the zelda games or something. But, you might disagree.

Overall - 3 stars. Music and graphics are great. Controls a little lacking. Gameplay and Plot arent the best. But this is just from a person that doesn't have more than one GBA (yes, I have the game, unlike some people's reviews). I'f you do, BUY THIS GAME!!! If you don't DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Besides, it's a lot harder alone, and it's confusing, single player or mult. player.

Happy gaming!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A rough start, a smooth finish, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with BONUS GameCube/GBA Link Cable (Video Game)
Many people, it seems are very disappointed with the beginning of this game, as was I. The plot is weak, the fighting is tedious, and multiplayer, for many, is unachievable because of its GBA requirements. About half way through the game however, things start to pick up. The plot thickens, the terrain and bosses are stunning, and fighting starts getting interesting.

If you want to enjoy this game you have to buy it. The part of the game you'll experience during a rental, well ... sucks. Buy it or don't play it at all.

3 stars. Good hack and slash, great graphics. Needs more spells, cheaper multiplayer capabilities, and a better start to the plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a good Final Fantasy action RPG, February 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with BONUS GameCube/GBA Link Cable (Video Game)
It's about time Square released another Final Fantasy on a Nintendo console. What makes the game so great is that it's an action RPG. These types of games seem to be going out of style on consoles which is bad. In this game you actually have to use more than one button instead of your typical Final Fantasy where you can just hit "x" repeatedly and finish the battle.

The characters look like they belong in a video game and not in an adult video like the current Final Fantasy characters in the PS2 games. They look like old school video game characters. There are a lot of elements in this game taken from the Final Fantasy world that allows Crystal Chronicles to use "Final Fantasy" in the title. However, only people who have been playing Final Fantasy games for years will see that. The 8 year olds who wrote reviews here obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

I don't want to give too much away but I will say some things about the story. You live in a world covered by something called miasma that is deadly to people. However, there are crystals that repel the miasma and people built villages around them. The crystals need their energy replenished every year so villagers send out caravans to retrieve myrrh.

The story isn't very deep but it's better than the usual story found in Final Fantasy games. Which is: someone's dad goes nuts and attempts to destroy the world so you have to go around trying to stop him and then you get an airship. Oh yeah throw in some pathetic love story to create tension. Square if you're listening it's time to hire new writers and character designers.

The graphics are amazing and most screenshots don't do the game justice. The music is also the best I've heard in a final fantasy game in a long time. The controls are also easy to get used to and you should have no problem with the camera.

The single player mode is a little easy and it's just you and a moogle trying to save your town. If you're not anti-social and have friends who own GBAs then you can link up and play multiplayer which is more difficult. It's also more fun because you have to work as a team with your friends. They each have info on their GBA that only they can see. So you have to talk to each other in order to beat enemies and complete the game.

I imported this game because I couldn't wait for it to come out and I'm happy I did. Crystal Chronicles is a nice departure from the boring, repetitive Final Fantasy games that have appeared on the PSone and PS2. The more recent ones have become too reliant on full motion videos in order to increase length of the game. If you enjoy action RPGs and Final Fantasy you'll definitely want to buy this game. There is no better time than to be a GameCube owner. ..... has an impressive line of games and more on the way. If you're a square fanboy and don't own a GC don't cry about it. Buy one and then buy this game.
