5.0 out of 5 stars OKAY...I really need to learn Japanese!!!, November 19, 2010

This game works using my Honeybee converter with the retro-duo Retro Duo Twin Video Game System NES & SNES - Red and Black I don't know how to save but I really like the way I feel when I play this game. I refuse to call it hype. I just have a bond for this game. I love the graphics and so forth, but when starting out make sure you don't have all warriors and there is a save function...I just haven't figured out how to use it yet. I would recommend this game. The play style is nice and easy to understand. Just make sure you know the language or a translator or you will get stuck like I am. I was going to wait until I had the Strategy guide Final Fantasy III 3 Nintendo Player's Strategy Guide, but I started playing it one night. I got all my men to level 8 found some cool stuff, kicked the guts out of a giant sea turtle (that was mysteriously on land???) and had a lot of fun doing it. Oh...and drinking from fountains generally brings your health up. Unless it does MP (magic points). One last thing. there is also this other strategy guide...it calls itself a secret. I have read some reviews and they call it a waste of time...but since I need all the help I can get I will be purchasing it as well. Complete Final Fantasy III Forbidden Game Secrets (Secrets of the Games Series.) and I just found this player's guide...it's cheaper...that's all I know...Final Fantasy III Player's Guide

-Thanks!!!

I was only able to play this game with an emulator and after someone had taken it upon themselves to translate it. It is way better than Final Fantasy 2, and introduced some of the elements that would become a mainstay of later games - such as the ability to summon monsters. Jobs in this game can be changed, just like in Final Fantasy 5, and you get groups of them so near the beginning you get basic jobs like black mage, white mage, fighter, etc and then as the game advances you gain more jobs, some of which are promotions/upgrades of the original jobs, so black wizard becomes warlock, then on to Sage, which white and black wizards both end up at since Sages can use all magic, and the fighting jobs such as Fighter leads to Knight, etc lead to the final fighting job, which is Ninja (can use any sort of weapon) Some of the jobs do not have any promotions or anything, such as Ranger, Scholar, Geomancer, etc and are standalone. I just stuck with the Fighter and Mage-type jobs until I achieved the Sage and Ninja jobs since these were the most versatile and strong ones.

That didn't mean all the jobs were bad, some were just more useful and practical than others, everyone who plays this game will have their preferences. The game itself was fun, with a varied story, though I do wish more history and depth could have been given to the four main characters you play, they are literally called OnionKids at the beginning before they get jobs.

I have not played the DS version of this game, and dearly wish they would release this for the GBA as they did for the other Final Fantasy installments of 1-6.

5.0 out of 5 stars Final Fantasy 3, June 21, 2011
This review is from: Final Fantasy III Famicom (Japanese Import Video Game)
I bought a repro of this about two years ago and I have never regretted it. It's so much better than the ds version. It's a lot like the original Final Fantasy, but with most of the flaws fixed. Auto targeting is the most obvious change. The wizards are much more useful in this game, not just stronger, but they have more charges too. It was the first game in the series to introduce a few things like summoning, and the ability to change your class in the middle of the game. There were excellent challenges like some dungeons that you couldn't access without the mini spell, which renders physical attacks useless. There is another dungeon where the enemies will multiply if you don't use a certain type of weapon. Overall it's the most fun Final Fantasy game on the nes, not quite as good a challenge as the original, but definitely enjoyable.
