3.0 out of 5 stars Problematic yet strangely attractive, nostalgic
The storyline to Final Fantasy Legend II (Second installment of the SaGa series in Japan, billed as Final Fantasy in the U.S. to boost sales) is interesting, but the characters in the game are impersonal and the game's bland, linear nature will leave modern games yearning for the depth, control, and immersion that today's RPGs give. Also, the game is incredibly easy...

magi, seventy-seven pieces scattered throughout various worlds. when brought together they form a statue of the goddess Isis, individually they represent power to their holder. many mortals seek the magi to gain enough power to become a self proclaimed god. you have control over four warriors and sometimes a guest, who are on a quest to gather magi and prevent evil persons from obtaining that power. you have a choice of who you want in your party, a human male/female, mutant male/female(magic users), different monsters who change througout the game, and a robot who increases/decreases HP and stats depending on what he is equipped with. if these don't sound like the ingredients of a fun filled adventure then don't get this game. it is one I will always remember, heck I still have it and play every couple of years.

5.0 out of 5 stars The fantasy is back with more depth, worlds and characters, January 13, 2002
This review is from: Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Game Cartridge)
The original Final Fantasy Legend was a fantastic RPG and the sequel added to it, with far better graphics and even more game depth, such as robots and monsters that can be added to your party of four warriors and even new worlds. The robots must be upgraded and the monsters can turn into different monsters! There are great features to quicken the pace of the game, such as rather than spending hours earning experience points and going up levels, you can now purchase levels, spells, weapons and stuff like that. To quicken the game, it now has it where when you buy a weapon, you can only use that weapon so many times before you lose it, so the game makes you drive forward to new goals, places and even worlds. Speaking of worlds, the real depth of the game is that there are dozens of worlds, with new graphics, characters, enemies and plots. The game is a fun RPG with great replay value with secret characters and entire secret worlds.

5.0 out of 5 stars SaGa's second installment, June 20, 2001

and the best out of the three. FFL2 (or SaGa 2) is the best available for the gameboy. It includes: 4 races, many abilites, a unique item/ability battle system, and an interesting story. It's races were used again in the game SaGa Frontier (save a few name changes.) I won't say you will necessarily like it, I am just giving my opinion on the game. Personally, I like the SaGa series better than the FF series (SaGa includes SaGa 1-3, Romancing SaGa 1-3, and SaGa Frontier 1-2). Give it a shot, it couldn't hurt.

5.0 out of 5 stars how final fantasy was meant to be, January 27, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Game Cartridge)
Originally this game was called 'Saga 2' in japan and was not an installment of final fantasy until this US title. Simply put, it rocks. The leveling system is totally transparent but natural, if you fight with a strength weapon, your strength may go up, the chance increases if you make a kill. You can use MAGI of different types to give a bonus to your stats.

The 'replayability' is off the charts with the ability to have any combination of four: human, mutant, robot, or monster, with duplicates allowed. The different characters offer a broad range of combat and growth style:, robots for example excel at using guns and cannons, their stats are not increased through leveling but by upgrading and swapping out different weapons and armors, monsters only level by changing forms from eating other monsters meats.

For a challenge play as two humans and two mutants (one male and one female of each) because their form of leveling is all from battling, don't let me make you think they are weak however as there are no limits to the strength of the human/mutant character as the robot is limited by the items in the game and the monster is limited by the available monster forms, only the human and mutant can continue to advanced even passed the display limit of 999. For a quick path to victory try one mutant and three robots, they will have unmatched firepower.

5.0 out of 5 stars > < This close to being Chrono Trigger, September 15, 2001

I must say, this is a really good game! This game is really long, excellent plot, and not too far off Chrono Trigger. It uses the same character system as FFLegend, but only 100 times better! Same battle system too, I was hoping it would be better... The ending is very good too. If you find this game, get it!

Also, the game is incredibly easy until the very end, when it becomes frustratingly difficult. You'll have the ability to customize your part in the beginning, my suggestion is 2 mutants and 2 humans, but after that your wiggle room for customization is very small.

Do I recommend this game? For regular (non-advance) Game Boy owners, it is a must have - the FFL series is the pinnacle of old-time portable RPG titles. However, there are much better games out there today; it might be worth saving your money. If you have this game lying around and haven't played it though, it might provide quite a few hours of enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old-fashioned, but still fun, November 25, 2001
This review is from: Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Game Cartridge)
I love this game. Sure, the graphics are terrible...and the battles were at times tedious...but something about this game grabbed me.

If you can't stand things that are outdated, definately DON'T get this game.

I wouldn't spend time on this game rather than Chrono Cross, Zelda, or other Final Fantasies...but, it's a good introduction rpg (if you haven't played others, which I hadn't when I first got it) and is wonderful to play on the plane if you have a lot of free time.

This review is from: Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Game Cartridge)
This game is definitely a improvement over the first. The first was like many other 'first game' in any series - simplistic, etc. This installment is definitely smoother and more polished, with more of a story, and more world to explore, and the graphics are a bit smoother than the first, decent for GameBoy. Once in a while you have an additional character join your party temporarily, but for the most part it's just you and three other players you choose. You can choose between Humans, Mutants (male and female) Robots, and Monsters. Personally, I went with two humans (one M, one F), a male mutant, and a robot. Like in the first game, your weapons have a limited use (usually, 50 times) and your magic books also have limited use. This can be really annoying, but is fairly manageable. Overall definitely worth trying.

3.0 out of 5 stars an average game in every aspect, October 20, 2008
A Kid's Review
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Game Cartridge)
This game is average and really no more than that just average. I actually beat this game back in the day so I'll give it that much credit and the end is cool but still just an average game. Oh yeah and nice music way to go Enix even on the gameboy busting the tunes.
