Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

How do you follow up one of the most ambitious, anticipated, and successful video games of all time? With an equally ambitious game that has a unique look and feel, but remains true to its lineage. This is the story behind Final Fantasy Tactics, the new Sony Playstation game from Squaresoft. Following the epic role-playing game Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics focuses more on battles and strategies for winning them. This book, which is far more engaging than your average all-text strategy guide, can help you master each of the game's 70 battle maps, which are depicted in several full-color screen shots. Before getting into that, however, the guide goes to great lengths to explain the game's incredible depth and the many intricacies you'll have to learn in order to be successful. The latter portion of the book explains the differences between the game's 20 different job classes and provides a wealth of statistics on the many weapons and creatures that come into play. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars You're gonna need a stapler..., January 13, 2000
This book is a strategy guide. What else can I say? We've all seen strategy guides before. The thing that makes this book great for this AMAZING game is the "suggested battle formations" on each battle map. Outstanding. Works every time.

But you WILL need a stapler. Im not kidding. The binding is TERRIBLE! Everyone I know has had their book completely fall apart at the seam. Read the other reviews...you'll see.

But this IS an indispensible guide to one of my ALL time favorite games. The best game (in my humble opinion) to carry the name Final Fantasy. Thats saying ALOT. And this book is the only "official" strategy guide Ive found that didnt dissappoint me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stapler, you're not kidding!, October 31, 2000

This is a great strategy guide with full-color, detailed maps for every battle. There are minor spelling mistakes and translation errors, but that is expected with every strategy guide. In all my years of role playing, I've never come across a guide that is 100% accurate. The biggest problem is the binding for this book is terrible. The book will fall apart in no time, but it's still worth it. It's nothing a little tape won't take care of. Gea!

4.0 out of 5 stars Little things are wrong, July 12, 1999

One major problem with the book was that the battle hint guides were far too vague. Also, there were tons of little errors in it. But I probably would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't completely fallen apart.
