Best Final Fight game of all time for SNES!,

This sequel of Final Fight clearly demonstrates the creativity and versatility of Capcom's programmers and writers. The extra moves given to the characters in the game are awesome and devastating to their opponents. Guy and Haggar are the best fighters of the four to choose from. The other two, Dean and Lucia, are good utility fighters, but not as good as Guy and Haggar. In addition to the excellent fighting techniques, I like the ability to choose a different path to the end boss. This is unique for the era in which this game emerged. Worth playing over and over again. Check it out!

A fair follow-up to the series,

Though it's not incredibly unique or impressive, Final Fight 3 does pack a pretty good punch. It pales in comparison to Final Fight 2 and it's not really even as classic as the first one, though the playability is better because the difficulty is more tame. Just like the Streets of Rage series, it seems that this installment was a little rushed. And as long as we're talking beat-em-ups, though it's apples and oranges, I did enjoy SOR3 much better than FF3. The story line of FF3 seems a bit more intriguing than the others, because it's not too far fetched and you're basically taking care of street gangs that are trying to throw riots around the city. Much more believable than traveling around the world beating up stray members of the Mad Gear in back alleys and restaurants, and it doesn't lack updated story progress like the first one.
Improvements I would say are the gameplay, the dash feature is an incredible step up, because you can run at your opponents (haha, payback time Andore) and create any kind of combo (except for Dean, he just slides and trips them...yawn). The damage done with characters like Guy and Haggar with this dashing move are substantial, and sometimes can drain half of your opponent's life bar. Looks like the scales are finally balanced here Capcom, Thank you! You can also hop backwards to avoid fire and opponents' attacks which helps a lot. I'd say the difficulty is average. A little too easy at first (you'll see what I mean) but as you progress through the game the difficulty redeems itself to classic final fight status. I'd like it if after every round the storyline updates you on where you're going and why. For instance, first I'm at a Chinese restaurant and now I'm at a welding factory. How did I get there and what am I doing there? It's like they gave up after the first two rounds and only tell you what's going on before the big boss. Who is the big boss? Why is he so angry? (can you feel me?) The sound also is below par (the hits are almost inaudible) and every time you pause the game you listen to 7 seconds of "pause" music before it stops. The grammar is bad in some spots (Congratulations. Now try next level.) The game baddies are a bit boring and some of them don't really do anything ('Joe' kicks you in the back of the head once in awhile, and 'Hunter' will swing his bat if you leave him open for about 4 seconds). As I said though, the difficulty evens itself out. Defeating the end boss was less than rewarding but welcomes you back to play the game again at a harder difficulty. Overall I thought this game was 'fair'. Not fantastic, not good, not even horrible, but 'fair'. 3/5

By now, the Final Fight franchise has started to age as a new generation of side scrolling games have come and taken everyone's attention away. The first Final Fight was a decent attempt at an arcade port and the second one was greeted by mixed reactions/criticisms from players. Capcom then released Final Fight 3 in 1995 and while it's not without its flaws, it is the best Final Fight game for the SNES.
Final Fight 3 brings back Haggar and Guy from the previous games and joins then with two new characters (Lucia and Dean) as they take on a new gang that was inspired by the Mad Gear Gang (old enemies) to wreck havoc in Metro City. You can choose to change the settings in the options screen, pick from one of four characters and battle enemies & boss characters through 9 stages that branch off in different directions. Each character has his/her own special and super moves. Super moves are executed by pulling off Street Fighter inspired arrow/button combinations that deal a lot of damage. You can have a friend jump in at any time since it has 2 player support. If you don't have anyone to come join you, the game has a 2 player computer option where the A.I. controls the second character and fights alongside your character. The PROS: Taking advantage of a 24 Megabit cartridge, it's the biggest Final Fight game out of the three and it shows. The graphics and overall presentation are good to look at. The music is pretty standard at this point but still get you in the mood to fight the bad guys while the sound effects are fine (although a little muffled.) The controls work great and 2 player support means you'll have more fun playing with a friend. Having the stages branch off in different directions means you'll have to play this a few times until you see everything and that's a good thing. The characters each have their own feel and it's interesting to see that Capcom didn't bring back any of the new characters from Final Fight 2. The CONS: If you don't like Final Fight, then this game won't change your mind. This game was made for the fans and for the most part, they succeeded. Despite the new changes in gameplay this game brings, it still gets a little repetitive from time to time. Also, why didn't they bring back Cody? He seems to be missing in action this time. And once you beat the game, that's it. Final Fight 3 closes the trilogy on the SNES and didn't set the world on fire back then. Fans of the series will get the mot joy out of this game as it goes out of the way to keep the action fresh and fun. It's a good attempt in keeping the Final Fight franchise alive and worth playing. It's better than Final Fight 2 so for those of you who didn't bother playing part 3 the first time around, you should reconsider and go for it.

all the final fight games are great (exept for that crappy one for ps2) but i think this one was my favorite in the series. i like the characters special moves and combos during action and also each character has a special weapon to pick up using combos, HAGGAR has the PIPE, LUCIA has a CLUB STICK, DEAN has the SLEDGEHAMMER (no combo) and GUY has the NUNCHUKS. they also each have special attacks when the power gauge goes up. i like the graphics and the enemies on each level and also you can take different hidden paths during gameplay to skip a few levels. Highly recommended.

Another average beat-em-up sidescroller from Capcom,

Don't get me wrong; I think this is the best game in the series (that I actually played, which excludes Revenge and StreetWise). The problem here is that there's not very much new to the table and there's barely anything to bring you back when you've played the hell out of the others. Had this been the first game, I would've given it five stars easy. I like that dashing has been added, I like that you can keep your character facing in one direction while holding L or R (or some other button if you change the control set-up in options) as you move toward and away from your enemies, I like having the option of a computer-controlled partner (though that can slow the game speed down sometimes) when I don't have another person to play the game with, I like that I don't HAVE to have a CPU partner or second player when I don't want to, I don't like that my grammar in this review is a bit inconsistent, I like a lot of the game's music, I like having super combo moves that can be executed when a special bar is filled (you can still do standard powerful moves that deplete your energy), I like the addition of moves that can be performed Street-Fighter-style, I like the fact that Guy is back (despite being a jerk and not doing anything while his fiance and future stepfather were kidnapped in Final Fight 2), and I love being able to beat the crap out of my enemies while dashing into them. The ability to do combo attacks when using certain weapons depending on the character is also worth mentioning. Seems like a lot, doesn't it? Well yeah, but that doesn't keep it from getting tiresome after a few minutes, which brings it back to being average.
Final Fight 3 is actually the fifth game in the series that made side-scrolling beat-the-hell-out-of-em genre so popular in the very late eighties and early nineties: Final Fight Revenge was released on the Sega Saturn in Japan and Mighty Final Fight was released on the 8-Bit Nintendo Entertainment System in the NES's final years. This video game features four different street-fighting heroes: Mike Hagger the pro-wrestler gone mayor (remind you of a certain Minnesotan governer?); Guy, the fist-throwing karate expert from Japan; Lucia, the "Angel Eyes" detective; and Dean, the electricity-enhanced brawler. This is the kind of game you and a friend should play when you just want to knock bad guys senseless without having to worry about consequences. To ad replay value, you can take different routes in certain parts of the game. |
