After Final Fight made it's Super Nintendo debut in or around 1990, Nintendo said in one of it's players' guides that the Super NES version included everything that made the arcade title a winner. Well, that was a matter of opinion, as Guy, the two-player mode, and a stage from the arcade game were removed, possibly due to memory constraints. Roxy, Poison, and alcoholic beverages were also removed from the American version. This, in addition to descrete graphical problems, caused the SNES title to sink while the SEGA CD version was much better recieved.
Former pro-wrestler and newly elected mayor Mike Hagger recieves a threat from a gang called The Mad Gears when he refuses to be corrupted and take bribes (Like that would ever happen in real life!) in exchange for letting them run rampant: They kidnap his daughter, Jessica. What the Mad Gears don't know is that Hagger doesn't take kindly to threats, and Jessica's boyfriend, Cody, isn't too pleased either. In this version, Cody's away in Japan so Guy joins Hagger in the streets to fight the Mad Gears and get Jessica back safely.
This is essentially another version of Final Fight for the SNES. While there are a few improvements graphically, the only major difference is that you get to play as Guy instead of Cody.

It's funny how this story coincides with Jessie "The Body" Ventura's run and victory for governor of Minnesota. This story was written prior to Jesse's run.

Okay, I'll admit it - I've been a beat-em-up master since I was 7 years old. Ever since Streets of Rage 2 hit the shelves for $39.95 at my local BX, I was kicking tail and cleaning up streets 16-bit style.

When I was younger I used to play Final Fight all of the time. I remember I favored Final Fight 2 a lot more than the others, and I couldn't remember why. I downloaded the emulator of this game for my PC and began to play it.

Guy replaces Cody as the main character, and I had heard so many people say that guy was simply so much better.

Honestly, either way - the game is ridiculously hard - and I enjoy a challenge, but the gameplay is incredibly unfair. At any moment, you can be snuck up on, and within two hits, half of your life bar is gone. When you add four or more baddies, some of them jumping, some running at you full boar, some drop kicking you, those half-life-bar thingamajigs add up to 2 and 3 lives lost within one small brawl.

Both characters have their strengths but their weaknesses nullify them. Guy is fast but he's weak. Haggar is strong but he's a slow mule. With Guy, expect to knock down your enemies faster, but they will be returning 3 and 4 times before you're done with them. With Haggar, expect a smorgasbord of punches and kicks behind you while you try to hit the guy in front of you twice. No character has any advantage over the other. Or in the game at all, for that matter. It's just unfair.

I can cut through pretty much any beat-em-up game without more than one continue and I'd consider myself an experienced novice. However, this game frustrates me to no end, because I end up putting my hands to the side and saying "this is just stupid. it's not even hard, it's just stupid hard."

Expect to lose at LEAST one life in each stage, and as you progress through the levels, at least one continue is the norm.

Stupid hard. That's all I can say.

Funny thing about this SNES title.....

When it was released in the United States, it was only available as a title to rent out; it was never sold in stores. I know because I rented it out from Blockbuster for a few days and was disappointed. Final Fight Guy is EXACTLY as the SNES port that came out shortly after the SNES made its debut. The difference here is that instead of choosing between Haggar and Cody, it was now between Haggar and Guy. Guy was a selectable character in the arcade version of Final Fight; he was cut from the SNES port.

Final Fight Guy is a good beat up game but it doesn't restore the cuts/changes the first Final Fight went through:
no 2 player support, not being able to choose from the 3 characters, names of bosses were changed and an entire stage was removed. So if you REALLY want to use Guy instead of Cody, you can track down this SNES port of Final Fight. If not, don't sweat it and hunt down the Sega CD port (if you bought the attachment for the Sega Genesis) or go for the GBA port that came out in 2001.
