If you enjoy reading books on the subject of Special-Ops and Covert military operations which give a step by step detailed storyline in which you the reader becomes so engrossed, that you cannot put the book down, then THIS is the book for you. I personally highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a non-stop truly exciting and adrenaline rushing book. This is not...

I was riveted by the first 6 chapters as everything seemed quite believable. However, starting with chapter 7, characters and events became implausible and fictional. Key events and characters that moved the story forward were completely based on coincidence.

The lead character Chance has a friend in DC he hasn't seen in a number of years. He asks to stay with her. She has a friend, Beth that coincidently Chance has previously met. What a small world! Then, Beth happens to coincidently know a former SEAL, Kevin Stacey, who works in Black Ops who knows Chance and his predicament. She sets up a meeting. And guess what, he has all this documentation Chance needs to answer his unknown questions. Coincidently, this guy keeps it all in a briefcase that never leaves his side because he can't trust anyone with it. Chance later acquires the briefcase and some of the documents he needs. Inside he finds a note from Stacey saying that he hopes Chance can use the info wisely and that he hopes it will help protect Chance. Give me a break!

What really got me questioning the truth of the story is the incident in Jamaica where Chance accidentally wondered into the wrong neighborhood and had to defend himself from the local hoodlums. A nice little event to move the story along; however I don't believe that this guy is dumb enough to accidentally wonder off into the bad side of town. This character is smarter than that.

I don't question the point the story is trying to make, US Government running drugs to fund secret operations etc. I do question this story however. Chapters 1-6 could well possibly be true; however the remainder of the book reads like fiction or a movie script. It's a great read if you like fiction, but if you are looking for a story that is believable, I wouldn't recommend this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not buying it, February 16, 2005
This review is from: The Final Mission: Spooky 8 (Mass Market Paperback)
A book about a supposed "Black op" from an alleged operator. Does this TYPE of thing happen? Sure. Did this "true story" happen? No.

The book reads as though the author read one of Marcinko's books and said "I can do that". There are some glaring problems with some of the things the author claims to have done for example buying a standard camcorder and leaving it unattended to tape a target for 24 hrs. How many camcorders have you seen that have enough tape and battery life to tape 24 hrs straight? And this is minor compared to his military and combat claims.

There are plenty of books available from real oparators about real secret missions. This is a poor copy of a rogue warrior book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just not credible., March 5, 2001

Perhaps the story in this book did happen. Just not the way King writes it, and not to him. I run a small business, and have had no military experience. I found the book an easy read, but all the inconsistencies, and pubescent tales of sexual conquest make it impossible to believe to anyone really paying attention. I have read many other non-fiction military/intelligence-related stories, and always a gifted writer will put their experiences to pen remembering names, dates, places, and sequence of events etc. - an amazing amount of detail. Not this amazing though. I believe that this book is fiction.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Final Mission: Spooky 8 (Mass Market Paperback)
There is no doubt in my mind that the United States Government, with CIA, NSA, etc. intervention, sanctions black operations of this sort, but Bob King and this book are complete fabrications of his imagination. From technical mistakes in the content to the picture of the author on the back page, everything this title entails is bogus.

I personally highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a non-stop truly exciting and adrenaline rushing book. This is not your average "Run of the mill" book, that will sit on your shelf. This book will be loaned out to your friends (Although you may never get it back) and is definitely worth every penny of its cover price. I read it in 3 days time while commuting to work on the metrorail system in Virginia, just miles from where the Author gives full detail of some of his most intrigueing story. A must read for all of those, both believers and skeptics alike. In a time where we hope to trust those in charge, this book still makes you think...who do you trust and to what extent?

This is by far the best book I have read in years. I couldn't put this book down. I am not into conspiracy theories at all and I was a little unsure what I was getting into when I bought the book. It was a very believable story and I am not at all sorry I bought the book. I highly recommend this book. But beware! You will not be able to put it down once you start reading. I am really looking forward to his next book. Check out the website- [....]

Bob King has lead a pretty exciting life. his story kept my attention rivited to this book from cover to cover. i've read other accounts of government betrayal, so i'm not surprised that the killing of patriotic soldiers happens, but it's still just as disgusting every time i read of another occurance. when will these creeps be brought to justice? can't wait for the next book to hit the streets. keep 'em on their toes, Mr.King!

Absolutely the best book in its class! Whoever can put it down without finishing it must have trouble in all aspects of life. It is amazing what can go on around us in our everyday world. This book reveals what an average person would have missed. Thank you Mr. King! From every "red-blooded" citizen I salute you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary example of discretionary warfare..., May 20, 2001
By
Greg (Lincoln, NE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Final Mission: Spooky 8 (Mass Market Paperback)
I happened upon this book a couple years back, lost it, then re-acquired it and couldn't put it down. For those of you who are students of discretionary warfare of any sort this is a must read. A few quick notes, though: First, it's apparent from the author that he's unconcerned about whether people believe this mission occured or not. It's simply the notion that IF this could've happened, then.... Second, it's important to observe that this is NOT a "military" story, but rather one of what happens to humans when reduced to pure, dark survival at the hands of their own government. The story itself is gripping in it's visceral impact and close-up look at what humans are capable of. Mr. King tells it from the apparent perspective that it was better for his sanity and excorcism of demons than for people's pleasure. And he tells it from a uniquely personal "just telling you what happened" perspective. I got the feeling that this probably wasn't exactly a party for him... For those of you who've studied this type of subject matter before, there's enough technical detail and "tradecraft" to keep most happy, but really it's more of a documentary-type narrative. How do you survive when you've been sent to die? How do you learn how to live again? Are there tactical recon teams that are "grey", in that they don't fit into any military order of battle? These are questions that are unavoidable after this brilliant read. If you're capable of keeping an open mind, then this is unlike anything anyone is likely to have encountered before... Highly recommended.
