This review is from: Final Placement: A Guide to Deaths, Funerals and Burials of Notable Americans (Hardcover)
Long out of print, I was surprised to find so many used copies floating around AMAZON. This guide looks at the deaths, funerals, and burials of notable people from the United States. Well written and researched, the people selected for inclusion came from quite a range of occupations. The notables included were presidents (Lincoln, Harding, Taft), captains of industry (Ford, Goodyear), writers (Mark Twain, William Faulkner), anarchists (Emma Goldman), activists (Mother Jones, Carrie Nation), and entertainers/impressarios(Ziegfeld, Major Bowes, Tom Thumb).Arranged alphabetically, the author provides information about the subject's life, final illness/death, funeral, and burial. In some instances, the information provided can be humorous on some level. What appealed to me was the information provided as the author managed to 'unearth' little known facts and incorporate them in a concise entry that was interesting, but not long winded. Additionally, the book is crammed with interesting pictures. This is an enjoyable book and is easy to read. I recommend this to anyone interested in the death styles of the famous or true trivia buffs. |
