Book Description

November 2, 2004
Christmas Eve in Auschwitz, 1944. Hitler's Angel of Death, Dr. Josef Mengele, and his brilliant young protégé, Adalwolf, are on the verge of a nightmarish medical discovery when the war brings it all to an end. But Mengele's insane visions for the Third Reich live on.

More than half-a-century later, FBI agent Melissa Gale's mission is to bring Adalwolf to justice before it's too late. He's emerged from the shadows of history to resurrect a biological terror and unleash it on the world. But tracking him is easier than Melissa imagined. Because for years, Adalwolf has been tracking her.

Melissa and her unborn child have something Adalwolf needs-a genetic history that holds the key to his success. As a dance of death is engaged between hunter and hunted, Melissa realizes how far the last Nazi will go to fulfill his dark dreams for his Ultimate Solution-and just how far she is prepared to go to stop him...

Review

The Final Procedure
"Pottinger mixes a healthy brew of science, suspense and just plain menace in this, his third novel. A former district attorney in Washington, he combines a feel for how federal law enforcement works with a powerful style of storytelling." -Houston Chronicle

"Settle in where you like to read, throw a blanket over your lap, and prepare for a sleepless night. Adalwolf is a villain for the ages. There are moments when he makes Hannibal Lecter look like the Easter Bunny." -Michael Palmer, author of Fatal and The Patient

"The disturbing thing about this novel is its chilling demonstration of how future advances that will save us from many genetic and infectious diseases have the inevitable potential to be used by 'bad' scientists. To me, it's the possible reality of schemes like Adalwolf's that is scarier than the fiction." -C.J. Peters, M.D., Director For Biodefense, University of Texas Medical Branch

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 22, 2004
By
SeattleGuy (Seattle,WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Final Procedure (Mass Market Paperback)
The writer has considerable talent but has come up with a disappointing book. Inspite of a promising beginning, the plot meanders along predictable lines. Perhaps in an attempt to be as scary as Hannibal, the author has included a scene where the villain wears a hannibalesque mask and another where he carries on a phone conversation with the heroine at a carnival like setting from a close distance. As a reader, I would appreciate some originality from an author rather than 'inspired' themes.
Some of the actions by the characters in the plot defy common sense. Why did Melissa not take a security team with her when she went to catch Adalwolf at the theater? Just because he speaks from a voice box, she believes that Adalwolf has no voice?
Moreover, the fourth reich wannabe villain plot has been repeated ad nauseum and no longer holds an appeal to readers of today. This plot would have worked in the 60's maybe but definitely not today.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHY DID HE RE-NAME THE LAST NAZI? CHEATING!, March 27, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Final Procedure (Mass Market Paperback)
I love the book. But why does he cheat, by selling the same book under two different names (The Final Procedure and The Last Nazi)? The books are identical. Why has noone mentioned it before? It is cheating ... I bought both.
Look at preview of the books, and you will see!
Funny too, why this book has only got 2,5 stars (before adding mine) and the Final Procedure got a lot.... same book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not his best-but better than most, February 23, 2006
This review is from: The Final Procedure (Mass Market Paperback)
Although not as inventive or imaginative as his first two novels, this is still a highly enjoyable read. Mr. Pottinger again uses his knowlege of law enforcement and legal procedings to bring a strong sense of realism to this novel. The concept of the evil Nazi is not too original but as with his previous novels Mr.Pottinger creates some original plot twists and keeps the action moving at a very brisk pace. The only disappointment with this book is comparing it against his first two novels which are two of the most incredibly original and controversial thrillers I have ever read.
