5.0 out of 5 stars Australia as it was
This book had me captivated from the start. It is very clearly written and follows the story of a boy living in England who gets into trouble, although not his fault, and settles on a new life in Australia. In the new colony, he ends up joining the Constabulary where the twists and turns of life and his job, give rise to an entertaining adventure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun yet dated story
A classsic adventure story of old, a fun read for sure but not without it's problems. The racism and old stereotypes is rampant as you would expect in a book written in this period. While easy to overlook for adults it makes this good adventure less suitable for children. The formating is also pretty terrible on the kindle loosing one more star.

The book was obviously written a long time ago, and that's what gives it its original character. There is something about this time period in Australia that is fascinating, and the way the author's of the time construct their sentences is unique and a pleasure to read.
