Too much thinking!,
By Norm Beavers (Tyler, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Final Resort (Executioner) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having been an Executioner fan from the beginning, I enjoyed this easy reading book. However, the newer writers are long on thinking and short on action. It often seemed as if half of the text consisted of an individual thinking about what was happening, going to happen, already happened, or what they hoped would happen. And the Executioner's invasion of the resort with an untrained backup was comical when compared to Bolan's usual expertise. Even his assault on the Saudi's living space came off clumsy. It's almost like the writer didn't want to make Bolan appear too superior... well, he's supposed to be and a "tentative" hero is not good escapism. It reminded me of the Doc Savage publisher's desire to make him a more normal detective type rather than a miracle worker, of sorts. And we all know how long that lasted! I'll be back for next month's adventure, but I hope the writer will serve me better and deliver a highly efficient, fully capable crusader! Norm Afterthought: The writing style of extensive thinking is more suitable for romance novels.... |
