Selling items at the back of the book cheapens the message..,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
First of all, I read the book and I am Roman Catholic. And while I appreciate her acknowledgement that the second coming will come, I am confused by the mixed messages this book conveys. For example, like the other reader, why would Jesus's mother be interested in saving fine china! Why would anyone be taken into stocking food for long term survival when a comet is going to strike the US! And also, why would anyone cheapen this most important message on the second coming of Christ by supplying a list of survival items and even giving pricing information at the back of the book! Is Kathleen on commission? It seems to me that Martin Luther also objected to selling "religious relics" and "indulgences" to those of us who were spiritually vulnerable at the time. Please, don't mix the holy message about the Second Coming of Christ with spiritual snake oil salespeople. Father Martins books on the other hand are incredible. "Hostage to the Devil" shows the tragedy and triumph of raw spiritual warfare and how powerful a weapon, "Christ centered Agape Love" is against Satanic forces. I think Kathleen owes true believers everywhere an apology for selling candles in her sales brochure called "The Final Warning" and a committment next time to giving us some footnotes and leaving out the products. Oh yes, and one other thing...here is the most evil man on earth and she doesn't have the spiritual courage to say who she thinks he is...."The Maitreya" at www.shareintl.org. I don't get it? Why not share who the wolves are...after all Jesus Himself said...there will be many who will claim to be the Christ in the last days and will lead many astray. The Maitreya may very well be only one of many antichrists.....

Too general,,,book of revelation better...,
By not a son of a prohet (la .ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
The final warning is too general, like getting a psychic reading she tells me things i already know, climate change, political revolutional, economic disasters and supposed revelations from an apparition (fatima) that re-tell the book of revelation, daniel and isaiah...never the less i give her some credit for bringing additional interest to the need of entire nations and peoples' need to change their ways or face judgement as never before witnessed...

Really a big letdown.,

This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
I, too, feel I must chime in and express my disappointment in this book. The subject matter is fascinating; I've been interested in End Times prophecy for quite some time. After hearing Kathleen on Art Bell's show, I ordered the book eagerly. There were some major delays with the book's arrival, but that's another matter. The writing is of poor quality. The book's production values seem to be not quite up to par. The fact that so much of the book was based on the Lueken work was the most shocking part of it all. The supply list in the back of the book smacked of hucksterism. I, too, am sorry I bought this book, and urge those who are interested in this sort of material to look elsewhere, starting with Father Malachi Martin's books. Fr. Martin's books will stand the test of time; this book will not.

Please save your money!,

This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
My book arrived today. It is very small, only 143 pages of text. Following the text are 4-5 pages of pictures that I've seen several other places. Then there is and "end time supply list" with a price list and ordering information! Gee, another way to get more money out of the reader. The final section is "useful prayers."I'm not finding any new information at all. What I see here is anything that can be found on the Internet on various conspiracy web sites. Saying that I'm not impressed is about the nicest thing I can say. Here is one of my favorite passages in the book (pg. 42, in the chapter about The Warning): "The entire top layer of the earth will shake for twenty minutes. The Blessed Mother has mentioned that it would be prudent to pack away any fine china or other treasures you hold dear." Gee...a comet has just struck the earth...I've viewed my soul as God views it...I might be damned to Hell for eternity ...there is a 20 minute earthquake going on outside my window....but if I manage to survive all of this, I can unpack Grandma's fine china and have a dinner party! Doesn't the Blessed Mother have anything more important to discuss than china? The bibliography is very short. No footnotes are provided for any of the quotations. Keating simply states that the quote came from so and so and such and thus, and provides no concrete source for it. She also quotes Veronica Leuken extensively (almost on every page). Veronica Leuken claimed to have visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and claimed to have received messages from her. The Catholic Church has never approved these supposed appartions, so using Ms. Leuken as your main source of information is treading on dangerous ground. I am so sorry I wasted my money on this book. I've seen better research and better writing styles from high school students.

An Amusing Attempt at Prophecy,
By Mike Sivilli (Bayonne, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
I was initially fascinated by this book. However, it was a letdown, considering the inordinate amount of hype it received. Kathleen A. Keating makes some good points about end-time prophecy. But if she were true to her faith, she would have been more fundamental in her reference to the fact that Jesus Christ Himself said that no one knows when the world will end. Her references to internment camps in New Jersey are unfounded. Even the pictures are incredulous, as they lack any substantive evidence. Though probably a typo (and there were many), the author early on refers to the Roswell UFO crash as having taken place in 1948. The author claims to be a fundamental Catholic, yet assigns great power to medals and icons, etc. She takes basic Catholicism, and skews it to meet her own superstitious convictions. Ms. Keating is obviously a fan of The Godfather movies, as is evident by her discussion of the Popes. It was fortuitous for my own sake that by the time the author discussed the anti-Christ, I was at the point of amusement. She claims to have met with "the anti-Christ's people," and knows who the anti-Christ is. If Ms. Keating were truly concerned for the safety of all (or even just Catholics), she would identify this person for us. She veers from her discussion of end-time prophecy, which, for me, was where I began getting confused. And besides, any truly religious person understands that the Bible warns of false prophets, which is clearly how the author comes across in this book. Sorry, but this one is for tabloid readers only (or if you have spare time and need some entertainment).

Not much of a revelation.,

Lots of "fuzzy math" and typos. This book has a few interesting concepts but nothing to become inspired about. If your looking for a good "end times" novel there are many better reads on the market. This book makes some incredibly illogical assumptions. A good sci-fi short story but certainly not an addendum to your Bible.

As an orthodox Catholic, I share some of Kathleen Keating's concerns and views. This being said, however, her book is a hopeless mess. It's riddled with off-the-wall speculations, paranoid delusions, risible messages from unapproved apparitions, and the crudest theology imaginable. The sooner I can put this absurd reading experience behind me, the better.

Think!,
This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
This book is largely a summary of "traditional Catholic prophecies" that have been rewritten from several web sites. For example a certain person mentioned in the book by his Internet name, World Teacher, is said to be the AntiChrist. This seems unlikely in view of Scripture - how could anyone *know* who he is at this point? The claim is also very old news (10 years or so old...), and information about World Teacher can be found easily on the 'net. Same is true for the concentration camps mentioned in the book. Pictures and information appear to be taken from web pages as a resource. Another example is the cataclysmic events predicted, noteably the meteor predicted to hit earth. This, too, is rehashed from the Internet and breaks no new ground -- readers can get the real, scientific facts from the Jet Propulsion Lab's web page. I give this book a low mark in that it does not break new ground or present a compelling case.

I heard Kathleen on the radio and had to buy this book. I am so glad I did. I'm going to have to re-read it, it's really full of information. I like the way she connects prophecy to current events. I'm a fan for life!!

Prophecy and days in darkness...,
This review is from: The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium (Hardcover)
I first heard Kathleen Keating on Art Bell's late night Coast to Coast radio program, over a year ago, when he was going to retire and Mike Segal had taken his place. I think it's safe to say that most readers of her book came across her the same way, and know the particular show I am talking about, and are likewise familiar with the Coast to Coast show, which covers topics of the paranormal. The interview was very enthralling, and when Kathleen announced the Antichrist was here on Earth, and that she knew his name, calls poured in. Mike Segal switch board must have looked like a Christmas tree. No different from any one else listening that night, I was taken by her sincerity and her intensity. I was ready to start digging my bunker and boiling water, and preparing for the days of darkness, for the Rapture. But first it was necessary to buy "The Final Warning", that would no doubt be useful to pack along with the iodine, powdered milk and crucifix. I have some problems with this book, but first I would like to cover what this book contains."The Final Warning", first off, is written from a Christian slant. If you are of another faith or find religion illogical, this may be a hard pill to swallow. I try to view nonfiction objectively, so I simply took that for Keating the belief that Jesus was the son of God is not a variable. That given, she documents prophecy from relatively obscure and/or anonymous prophets, and from their accounts pieces together a plausible and intriguing scenario for the rise of the Antichrist, the corruption of the Catholic church, the satanic UFO conspiracy, US government concentration camps, and the coming of the Apocalypse, to name a few. This is interesting and sensational material, but Keating's writing is straight forward and has almost no embellishments, like an Associated Press wire. Some parts, in fact, are much like the subtitle describes, written like a field guide to surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. This works for "The Final Warning", conveying that the author intends all the information to be taken with sobriety. Keating's book suffers from brevity, however. Some subjects are given less then a paragraph of detail, and some of her connections are not fluid. The actual text adds up to less than 100 pages, and Keating fills in space with unnecessary lists. Everything is listed; lists of names, lists of supplies, lists of saints to pray to, lists of locations, lists of instructions etc. This is very dubious, and in all honesty get ridiculous, as if she is really trying to stretch her book. Maybe she thinks this makes the information easier to reference quickly. Kathleen Keating has done research, I am sure, and it enhances her writing when she references the information that she has culled. The bibliography, however, is skimpy. There are about 29 sources in total, one of them isn't a text, most of them just give a name, a title, and a date. This is useless for anyone wishing to investigate deeper, making her sources difficult to trace. Then there are the anonymous "seers", who she quotes prophecies from frequently. A journalist should know that you don't build a story around an anonymous tip if you can't prove that it holds up. That said, Kathleen Keating is certainly tapping into the zeitgeist. For some, proof of the coming of Revelations need not be academic in nature, it is evident in the environment, in daily life, on the television, and our collective experience in September of last year- especially those of us here in NY. I certainly believe, with no need of proof, that there are those walking among us everyday, in prisons and hospitals, and in public schools too, who's lives have been Hell for one reason or another. For them, the apocalypse has happened already, and it always will be happening. |
