5 Stars for Content, 0 Stars for Amazon, November 18, 2008
This review is from: Final Word (DVD)
Just received this last night. The thing they don't tell you anywhere on Amazon, or on the individual sellers pages is that this DVD is for regions 2, 4, and 5! Not Region 1! If it's sold in the U.S. (Mine shipped from Georgia) it should either be region 1, or explicitly tell you it's not region 1! I can't play it on my DVD players, it only plays in my computer because I can switch the region the computer drive can play up to 4 times, I'll have 2 times after I switch it back to region 1. 0 Stars for Amazon.
That said, the documentary is cool, but the real gem on this disc is getting to see Tony Visconti go track by track with you through the original master tapes of 'jeepster' and 'ride a white swan' and explain how and why things were recorded certain ways. 5 Stars on that alone, the content of the documentary is also very good, if you've read Paytress's Bolan, it's basically a very truncated version in video form.

Bolan was cool ..., October 14, 2010
This review is from: Final Word (DVD)
Many people are making a buck well after Marc Bolan's untimely demise. Some of the products are quite good, this one is excellent. Most people will appreciate and enjoy the beginning of Marc... His early associations with other musos proved interesting and sure made him want to be recognized ... He made some beautiful and yet simplistic, but very interesting music with both Steve Took and then later Mickey Finn. Both certainly brought something to the pot ... But Bolan was a person that really had to be in control and both T.Rex bands had real impact on the music scene. The raw energy of Bolan combined with Steve Curry, Bill Legend and Mickey Finn was simply brilliant and when you watch Born to Boogie, it really brings it all home. Bolans last version of T.Rex was a refined and polished Rex that was equally entertaining but didn't have the edge of the early Rex ...
This DVD certainly introduces you to the real Bolan, but lacks in not providing any input from the other members of both Rex bands etc. They were very important as Bolan needed good musos to bring out his best. Buy it, and enjoy!
