Finale 2009 - Academic [OLD VERSION]

I have this software and the software is incapable of doing something as simple as rewinding and fast forwarding thru the composition. Yes indeed, you will NOT be able to rewind or fast forward. This will make your composing process anything but fast as they brag about.
I emailed them about it and here's how they responded:

"This problem has been identified as a software defect and has been assigned to our product development department. If possible, the defect will be scoped and corrected in an upcoming version of Finale. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

As a workaround solution, you can use other options for playback settings. These can be accessed by clicking on the speaker icon in the playback controls, from there you have options for playback to start at a measure number, leftmost measure, or current counter setting."


Thats right IF possible it will be fixed. Not only will they NOT release a free patch like other music software does to fix problems (pro tools, cake walk) but you will have to live with the problem until the next version comes out and pay $100 to upgrade to 2010 in order to fix the problem. They will NOT release a free patch for you to fix. This is outrageous and unheard of.

When i complained of this they responded with "I will pass along your comments to our development team." And that was it.

DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE. Obviously their software developers are too incompetent to even QA their own software and see if you can even fast forward and rewind either that or its just a conspiracy to keep you upgrading. Also it was promised I would be able to play files from older version.. COULD NOT.

I've been using Finale since the early 1990's. I'm a Church Music Director and a Studio Piano Instructor. Finale has always been able to perform every notation task I have ever called upon it to do. On those occasions, and there have been several throughout the years, that I needed to use tech help they have always been there for me and stayed with me until my problem was resolved. I recommend Finale to every serious musician that needs professional notation software.

Sometimes I may quibble about the almost yearly upgrades; but I don't upgrade every year and generally wait until there are some new features that I find will make my work easier or better.
