If you want to learn how to train and a proven plan for physique transformation success, pick up Bill Phillips' "Body for Life".
When the going gets tough (and it will!), pick Porter Freeman's "Finally Fit at 50" to remind you WHY you are working hard & eating right. The WHYs will propel you through the 84 days. If you haven't listed the reasons why you MUST change, your brain will find the reasons why NOT to finish. PICK UP THIS BOOK and READ IT! Thanks Porter for a true gem!

To the Honorable G. Porter Freeman,
Now, I don't know if you'll read this (I hope you do) cause today I am 50 years old and your book really meant a lot to me, it came in the mail autographed "Best in Health - Porter Freeman" How I don't know, didn't pay extra or nothing it just came that way. I'm 50 years old today I'm damn lucky to be here, in March of 2006 I suffered a ruptured brain artery (I know how JFK felt on November 22, 1963 or at least that's what I told them in the ER but they all smelled of acne crème and had no idea what I was talking about), the rupture caused a stroke, the I had a heart attack, and two weeks after that I suffered another stroke. Everyone kept saying how lucky I was to be alive, I beat death three times, yeah Buddy I was sure lucky. Porter you know what happens when you have a stroke? You can't work any more, you lose your job, and when you lose your job you lose your house cause those folks don't want to hear your beautiful wife's sob story about how your brain don't work with your hands anymore and you can't be a Graphic Artist anymore. They sure don't give a bug's butt that you had the coolest job on Gods green Earth working as a contractor at NASA. Nope hand over the keys and get out. That was over a year ago, and another stroke (my third and I hope last in November of '06) and my beautiful wife's cousin and her boyfriend came over and he was talking about getting in shape. I said I had just the thing and dung out my copy of "Body of Work" of course they rolled their eyes but I found my self crying. I went and got "Success Stories 1 and 2" and watched them. And cried too. Then next thing I was doing was ordering "Body-for-Life" for myself, "Body-for-Life for Women" for my beautiful wife, and your book "Finally Fit at 50" Since, I've heard your voice on the tapes (you guys should really get them onto DVD ya know) it was like you sitting down and talking with me. My buddy Porter and me, that's what it was like, I wasn't reading a book I was having a conversation with a friend, an old friend, who sat me down and said, "Well, look at the Ant Farmer!" With a big damn grin on your face! I've gone from a casket to a wheelchair, to a walker, to cane, and yeah I am lucky to be alive but I don't feel it. I watched those tapes and I saw those Champions and I cried thinking that's what I want to feel like - I WANT TO FEEL ALIVE AGAIN! So, this fat old man with the busted brain will be taking that Challenge! I don't give a bugs butt about the money, I don't like Corvettes (a 1966 Baby Blue Dodge Charger - NOW your talking) I'll be doing it for life, for my life, and for other lives like mine. That's the bottom line Porter, that's what Bill did for you, that's what Bill and you have and will do for me, and that's what they and I will (I hope) do for others too - give them the inspiration to DO IT! Thank you! Thank you Bill Phillips Thank you Porter Freeman We'll be meeting in the future, and I look forward to the honor to shaking both your hands.

It Will Convict You of the Truth,
By Dr. Bob Tripp (Lakewood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Finally Fit at 50 (Paperback)
Some fitness books are easy to ignore, easy to dismiss. This book is not. It is DANGEROUS and should be avoided by poor timid souls. If you count yourself among the growing ranks of complacent Baby Boomers who have said "Enough!" to poor health, this book will inspire you and convict you of the truths in your own life. Porter's journey is filled with comedy, tragedy and inspiration. His transformation has spurred thousands of us to "Cross the Abyss" and strike out in pursuit of a better Life. This should be a mandatory companion book to the Over 40 Crowd who are embarking on the Body for Life Transformation Challenge. He explains how his physical tranformation spurred an intellectual and spiritual change as well. Buy five copies, keep one and give the other four away to friends and co-workers. I laughed and cried but most of all...I get it. Yes Porter, I finally get it. Thank You.

What an inspiration!,

Porter has created a funny and motivating "memoir". If you want to change anything about your life, use this book to encourage those dreams. This book was given to me as a gift and everytime I read it I am reminded how truly amazing and strong I am.

Porter is the Real Deal,
By
This review is from: Finally Fit at 50 (Paperback)
During the heyday of Muscle Media Magazine, Porter's column was a wonderful part of the magazine. He is a good writer and a true gentleman. Having met Porter and talked with him for a bit and watched his interaction with literally hundreds of people at a booksigning for Body For Life, I can attest to the fact that he is the real deal. He is in fantastic shape and on top of that, he is incredibly caring, grateful for his achievements and reaches out to everyone. Bravo for his book!

Home-Spun Wisdom,

I was really sad when Muscle Media ceased publication....No more Porter.
This book made up for that in a big way. His down home advice is relevant not only in fitness and nutrition, but in every day living. I feel like Porter is sitting with me in my back yard (perhaps drinking a beer) and ruminating over life. I think that Mark Twain and Porter Freeman would have really hit it off. Read this book slowly and savor it. Indeed, Porter Freeman is a true Southern gentleman. R.R.Wood Naples, Florida

I actually called Porter to ask a few questions and rec'd a call back! Take a look around you, how many of your over 40 or 50 friends are out of shape or in poor health?
This plan coupled with a good workout program gives you a track to follow and the attitude to match. A relateable true story of how to reclaim your life.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Body!,
This review is from: Finally Fit at 50 (Paperback)
Porter Freeman certainly has found the "Fountain of Youth". I really admire Porter's journey from Fat to Fit. Most people already know and have heard over a thousand times the ole saying, "Just, "Eat right and exercise". Over ten years ago, I read Bill Phillips' book, Body-for-LIFE, and it has changed my life completely. However, Porter Freeman is mentioned several times in the book, really inspired me to get off my a$$ and take the challenge too. Losing the weight was great, kinda like seeing an ole friend that you haven't seen in years. Maybe, since high school!!! Great Job with your book, Porter... Keep up the good work, and I hope that you write another to encourage millions more to do the same...

This book is for anyone trying to change (and at any age)! Porter's writing style is very Blunt but his pure honesty and 'in your face' approach can really help you to stop making excuses and take action once and for all. To decide you WILL conquer the detrimmental habits that are holding you back! There is something for everyone in this book. My biggest challenge is to not overeat (including my BFL free day) I gained a different perspective from a 'real life' person who has battled his inner demons, made mistakes and learned from them (even if it took a while) This is a story of Transformation, good advice and inspiration to start AND MAINTAIN a healthy, strong and fit lifestyle. Get this book. Re-read the chapters you need to get into your head & refer back to them often. This little book has done wonders for my overindulging habit!

This is basically one man's story of how Bill Phillips' program got him into shape and changed his life. I was hoping for more practical info pertaining to getting into shape after 50, rather than an endorsement of Phillips. Very disappointing - not really inspirational. Just get Phillips' books which are more useful and practical.
