About the Author

Shirley Plant has studied the field of nutrition for many years. Diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and multiple food and environmental allergies, Shirley understands first hand the difficulties of trying to plan creative, nutritious, and affordable menus while having to avoid such common foods as wheat, dairy, eggs, corn, gluten, and sugar, just to name a few. But through understanding, education, and a keen interest to help people find food alternatives to fit into their life schedules, Shirley has developed an expertise and reputation in Dietary design and customized recipes, as well as being a personal chef for clients with dietary sensitivities.

Ms. Plant has published various articles for Eco-Sense, a publication for people with allergies, and the Celiac News, Ottawa Chapter, a quarterly newsletter. She has also been a presenter at the Ottawa Environmental Health Clinic on food allergies, intolerances and rotation diets.

Shirley lives in Ottawa, Canada, with her dog, Comet.

This was the first cookbook I got when I had to go gluten free (and dairy free for awhile). I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and depressed about having to learn to cook differently. This cookbook has brought me such a sense of relief...recipes that are uncomplicated and turn out well every time. Also a great resource book with information on allergies and intolerances, natural chemicals in foods, food substitutions and food combining. It's nicely laid out and well written.

This cookbook is the first one we reach for on our shelf as all the recipes we've tried are easy and delicious.
Love the layout of the book, I find it makes it each recipe clear to understand and quick to put together.
There are certain food groups, like dairy, gluten, corn and sugar that my family and I steer clear from. This cookbook offers a variety of choices so that we can eat meals that agree with our bodies! For that age old question - what's for dinner tonight? - this cookbook is full of great options.

What an amazing cookbook. I gave it to my sister in law for Christmas and she has done nothing but rave about all the amazing recipes in it. She is also so encouraged by all the information provided in regards to food allergies and why the foods are challenging for some. She couldn't put it down and still reads it. There is nothing more encouraging when you have food allergies than to know that you are not alone and that there are tools out there to walk you through it. Shirley Plant has written a work of art!

Being a mother of 3 with combinations of life threatening food allergies, food sensitivities, and intolerances, I appreciate how this Dietary Guide Book is easy to follow, offers many options, sustititutions, and rotational diets. It is Very Easy to navigate and with my family's complex diet requirements, I can still figure out how to make it work!
