A Book For Everyone August 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
I titled this review as A Book For Everyone, and here's why. Patty Mason doesn't just share her testimony in this book, she bares her sole, exposing pieces of her life that most people would sweep under a rug and keep them there. She shares emotions and actions that I think just about everyone can relate to. Even if you're not in a deep well of depression, I'm sure you've experienced moments in your life where you've been down, or where you felt like nothing you did mattered and that there was something more that you needed to find to make your life complete. While this is a book to help others come out of depression, I see it also a preventative guide. As I read through the pages, I could see myself mirrored in portions of Patty's life that made me reflect on how easily I could have slipped into the same illness. I could also see others -people I'm close to -mirrored in her words and would like to recommend this book to them before they slide down that slippery slope where we feel life is leaving us on the edge between success and failure; between feeling loved and feeling alone -that slope one can easily slide down when one concludes there is no hope. But, Patty gives that hope through her words, and it's evident in how she shares her story that she sincerely wants to help others find their way out of the darkest moments in their life. She then goes a step further to share her experiences with helping another through such a time, so the reader is able to see the other side of depression through her eyes. Whether you're going through depression, or know someone who is, Finally Free is a candid and valuable resource for you, and it's a quick read. There's no fluff. There's no one size fits all in this book. She doesn't tell you what to do -she gives you the tools to break free from a devastating illness and remain free. I highly recommend this book.

Finally Free is an amazing piece of art! Patty is so talented in her writing and sharing truth throughout this masterpiece. This book touched my life and wish so much my mother would have read it before she took her life when I was sixteen years old. I lost a mother to depression and that disease runs throughout my family. I thank God for authors like Patty who shares a transparent, straight-forward about a subject that so many people stuff in hopes it will just go away. It doesn't and as Patty shares her personal experience, trials and victory, you cannot help but jump for joy when you finish reading the book knowing that you can WIN the battle of depression by surrendering to Christ! Anyone who has experienced depression knows that hope is oxygen, and this book is an air hose. With honesty Patty describes the descent of despair, and with gentleness escorts us on the journey of not just her own recovery, but ours as well. Patty also offers wise guidance to those seeking to support a depressed loved one. Finally Free is going to encourage and help a LOT of people. It will literally save some people's lives.
