5.0 out of 5 stars A Musical Masterpiece January 29, 2013
By Tempest
Format:Audio CD
I originally was introduced to the music of Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr at Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN. I immediately realized how incredibly talented singers and writers they were. When I learned later that year that they would be forming a group with the legendary Kenny Loggins, I was stoked. I caught their first gig at Tin Pan South, and have been eagerly anticipating the release of their debut album. Needless to say, I am not disappointed. There is no dominant voice other than Blue Sky Riders. They play off of each other with such great harmonies it is easy to just listen to the album over and over again for hours.

Of particular note to me are the titular track "I'm a Rider (Finally Home) which perfectly shows the blend of their three voices, "Little Victories" which showcases the amazing voice of Georgia Middleman, the tender "Another Spring" speaking of rebirth, and my personal favorite, "A Thousand Wild Horses" which I am amazed was never bought and recorded by another artist before Gary was finally able to record this with Blue Sky Riders. All I can say is, it was the perfect timing for its production, with this group and these amazing artists.

If anyone out there is looking for an album that will be a favorite in your collection for years to come, you have found that album in "Finally Home."

Here's hoping for continued success and outstanding albums from Georgia, Gary, and Kenny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Say Yes! January 29, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
Over the past 40 years, Kenny Loggins has sold millions of albums, charted numerous hits and won two Grammy awards. He first achieved success as one half of Loggins and Messina, and then went on to greater heights as a solo act with chart-topping songs like "Footloose," "I'm Alright" and "Danger Zone." Now that he's 65, one would think he'd be slowing down, but that's not the case. Instead, Loggins has started a new band, the Blue Sky Riders, and their first album, Finally Home, is a feast for the ears.

From start to finish, it's all killer and no filler. Finally Home is an amalgam of rock and country music, and it's filled with infectious melodies. It's comprised of a well-balanced mix of upbeat, mid-tempo and slow songs, and all of them feature excellent musicianship. Moreover, all three members of the group are given the opportunity to shine. The music is layered with beautiful harmonies and soulful vocals that will make you want to sing along.

Kenny Loggins career has been like a three-act play; each act has had different tone. The first two acts were excellent, and based on the music being produced by the Blue Sky Riders, it's safe to say his third act is going to be a memorable one. I highly recommend you check out Finally Home. It's a terrific debut album by a band with an extremely bright future.

Yeah, I know there are 11 months left. But sometimes an album is everything you want your music to be. "Finally Home" is just that! I've been a huge fan of Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr for a long time from their Nashville stuff. And I've seen Kenny Loggins at least 5 times in concert over the years. To have their talents combined into one group is an awesome premise to begin with. They take that premise and make it work...magically. Immaculately crafted (mostly inspiring and uplifting) pop with a California Country edge, driven by their truly otherworldly harmony blend. What The Mamas and Papas were to the 60s? What Fleetwood Mac was to the 70s and 80s? It's not a stretch to put BSR in that category for today's scene. If you like country groups like Little Big Town or Lady Antebellum, you'll love BSR as well. Favorite tracks? SO many! "Little Victories", "Dream", "Feeling Brave", "Just Say Yes"... But this album is chock full of beauties from tracks 1 to 15. My ears are..well..finally home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slightly biased, but totally honest review February 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First of all, full disclosure: Kenny Loggins has been a friend for many years. That said, check my history, I have never reviewed any of his music before, in fact this is my first review of any kind.
I love Blue Sky Riders "Finally Home". Everyone I know who has heard it loves it. There will almost certainly be some who don't. For example, you may be the type of person for whom the idea of three world-class songwriters inspiring and challenging each other to new heights is not compelling. Or let's just say you don't like the thought of melodies that walk around with you all day, whether you are listening to them or not. Maybe you are not moved by harmonies so intricate, and so perfect they actually give you goose bumps. Or maybe you are uncomfortable with the ethos of this album, in fact the guiding principle of this band: the thought that it is never too late to make something spectacular happen in your life. Those people may not love "Finally Home". To the other 95 percent of you I think this CD will be the most wonderful, unexpected musical gift you have had in a long time.

To those who have taken the time to read this review, I can only say thank you. To those who read this review and decide to give Blue Sky Riders "Finally Home" a shot, I can only say, you're welcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Good? Better Than Great! February 9, 2013
By ktodaro
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Being, admittedly, a bit past the age of nightclubs and late nights, it has long been this music lover's beef that
the current and recent crop of artists were not. So little good songwriting and even less great musicianship.
Having impatiently waited for this release for what seems like months, I can now say that great music, great songwriting and great musicianship
now have a new paradigm - Blue Sky Riders.
I wondered if this would be Kenny's band. Nope - these guys are a tight, cohesive, close to brilliant amalgam of pure harmonies and effervescent
tunes. Each member critical to the whole. The whole much better than any of the parts.
My faith is restored and I have ordered another copy. Pretty sure I will wear this one out.

Great harmonies and I'm glad Kenny gave the other two vocalists plenty of room here. Good instrumentation, and REALLY great moving harmony parts.
