give me a break,

This review is from: Financial and Managerial Accounting, 1-23 & MyAccountingLab with Full E-Book Student Access Code (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
i am sickened to watch my son take college level class and have to spend [...] on a 10lb book and computer program that does nothing but frustrate him. He comes to me asking what he is to do when he gets stuck, and when i sit there working on MYACCOUNTINGLAB. it is like a game. you get 3 tries and your done. don't you think that even if it may take more time, why don't they actually have a teacher teach the work and really make the kids work out the problems pen and paper. actually writing the information and getting feedback from a teacher on the work he has done. instead of letting a computer program just have a pop up show up and say 'WRONG' for the most part and they move the student on without explaining what they did wrong and how to do it correctly. If you want to get the grade and just pass the class because you have to, yea it may be a easy way out, because there are ways to really cheat your way through pretty much every problem. MYACCOUNTINGLAB calls it simply. 'helpmewiththisproblem' button. and it tutorials you through the same problem with a different set of numbers. well you just get a pen and paper as i said before... copy. and regurgitate back onto the actually assignment. its a scam the way the teaches really dont have to explain how things work anymore. they just teach the subject and thats all their consern. if the student does not learn it in class.... to bad the class goes on.
PLUS i dont know where these computer bases classes are becoming popular, but i can say that if you want to learn accounting dont wasit your money here, their just in it for the money....

Unfortunately most people who order this book don't have a choice, it is a requirement for the class, as it was for me. If however you do get a choice, do not choose this one. I found the layout very confusing, with pages of summary problems interspersed in the chapters. It made it very difficult to flip through chapters to find something. More importantly, I did not like the way things were explained, if they were at all. For an entry level book, they should have made things much clearer. Instead, they skipped steps, leaving you wondering very often, "How did they get that?" There are much better accounting books out there, skip this one.

The book is very useful. Although it seems a bit pricey, we used it for 3 quarters (Accounting 201-203) so it was well worth it.
