This textbook is not a great way to learn accounting in any form. The writing is uninteresting without any good examples to help you fully understand the concepts for financial accounting.

Don't buy this expensive but bad book! This is truly the worst book in accounting/finance I have read so far. It is awfully written. Often, I did not understand what Gibson wants to say. Only after consulting other books did I get the point .The book also focuses too much on technical details (which items include/exclude in ratios) but does not discuss their broader context. And last but not least, the questions and problems at the end of the chapters contain not one single answer. Which means, Gibson wants us to buy the study guide and dish out more money . But if that guide is as bad as the book, its a waste of money. I cannot understand how a book in its 9th edition can be that bad...

As others have said, this book is a complete waste of money. A great example of publishers extorting students. And it is already in a "new" edition? If your professor chooses this book, you may want to reconsider their value as a professor.

I think the only good thing about this book is the price. My teacher specifically used it because it was cheaper and did not cost into the hundreds $$$.

However, that is about where it ends. This books doesn't have one good moment in it. Yeah, financial analysis can be a tad boring, but so is photography (which I happen to enjoy) when you talk about noise, lens softness, sharpness, et. al. This book did NOT hold my attention whatsoever. It lacks any good examples and the ones they provide I tend to skip over. If you cut all the fluff out I would say this book could be at least under 100 pages.
During the end of the book, it came to the point where I would just not read half the chapter that is how dreadfully dull it got. I do great on my homework assignments and quizzes, but what this books lacks is presentation. It has content but not the enthusiasm. Investopedia does a better job presenting the information and saying WHAT a ratio means and how it relates.

I used it for my Financial Statement Analysis class, although I did think some of the text I read was confusing.

This book is supposed to cost $220 at the college bookstore. Luckily I found it "for cheap" (yeah right) on Amazon. I guess it is good for beginners who have never had any accounting or finance, but I already have. One really good thing is that all the ratios you need for the problems are right on the inside covers!

The book is reasonable but if you are trying to learn this material on your own (and therefore could use the answers for the exercises) forget it; the answers to problems aren't available to non-teachers. :s

This book is easy to read and understand. The material presented in a straightforward manner. Many exercises at end of chapter to use as review.

Only issue I had was there was no tracking number on my shipment. And no option for next day or second day air. Otherwise book arrived as described and online code worked great. Thanks!
