As one of the authors of this book says, "We all know the formula to good financial management is to earn more and spend less. So why don't we do it?" 1.0 out of 5 stars Read Dickens Instead
This 150 page miracle, the dream of 'workshop' givers Ted, Rick and Brad is a thinly disguised sales pitch for their consulting services. The language is pop-psychology for managers and other non-readers. And it's an insult to Charles Dickens. We were probably meant to take away some lessons about money from the original tale, so "A Christmas Carol" is worth another read...

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
As one of the authors of this book says, "We all know the formula to good financial management is to earn more and spend less. So why don't we do it?" This book shows us that the secret is in our emotional response to money: having it, not having it, feeling that we shouldn't have it and why. Often these responses were formed when we were quite young and we're not conscious of them and how they direct our money-related actions.

The authors explore many people's dysfunctional relationships with money and unravel how and why they came to be, thus allowing them to form new, healthier patterns. The book is filled with illustrative examples from real people, so it's juicier, more interesting and more informative than a theoretical treatise about money management. There's also one story about a woman who makes buckets of money and still has money problems. Money challenges are examined from all angles.

The authors also share their personal stories, all of which are powerful.

The comparisons to Ebeneezer Scrooge are fun and illustrative too, though he's obviously an extreme case.

Highly recommend this book. It's small, easy to read and you'll easily be able to make positive changes in your life from reading the examples and doing some of the suggested exercises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing wisdom...from a classic to a classic, April 5, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
While this book is small and an easy read, don't let it fool you. It packs a powerful punch. I found it to be one of the most entertaining "money psychology" books I've read, probably due to the Christmas Carol story as the theme. Also, the authors blunt honesty about their own challenges make the message that much more accessible. I had the opportunity to interview both Ted and Rick on my Internet radio show EverydayWealth Radio about the book and found them to be just as engaging on the air.

While you can breeze through this well-written book, the real challenge is applying it and that will take some time. I am still digesting it and working on my money scripts but already have realized some interesting insights. I would have liked more examples from other readers -- maybe on the website or on the next book?

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Financial Read Ever, January 8, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
This book was a really good and easy read that freed me up to completely revamp my thoughts and actions around money. I used to experience fear and loathing when I read those run-of-the mill financial books that tell me what I should be doing with my money (as if I didn't know, and as if I didn't have to eat and pay rent). This book is different, and it feels so REAL. I have already been able to benefit from the principles the authors set down in the book, and I feel like I have really CHANGED. I already feel wealthier, and my bad habits are melting away effortlessly. Highly recommended, I think a lot of people are going to like this and benefit from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick, meaty read, January 20, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
The tie in with Scrooge makes the principles very understandable. I read the book in one night - pleasantly surprising for a "finance" book. I had already read Conscious Finance and the 2 books reinforce each other. They were a great help in goal setting and transforming my thinking about money's role in all phases of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected financial metaphor, August 7, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
I found this book to be one of the BEST and most fun personal finance books I've ever read (And I've read a lot of them). The mantra that Klontz, Klontz and Kahler drive home, "It's not about the money, it's about how we think about money," is a powerful reminder of how we use money to act out personal self worth. "Scrooge" taught me that your net worth does not equal your self worth. They also created the phrase, "our money scripts" which I found to be all so true for me. I was also fascinated by the in-depth research they conducted on the author of "The Christmas Carol," Charles Dickens and how much his life was woven into the text and lessons illustrated in Scrooge. I loved how they cleverly used A Christmas Carol as a metaphor for our financial lives and how true it remains today. A must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God someone is addressing this!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
Anyone who has wrestled with finances, felt they didn't fully understand money and how it affects them, or just feels they could benefit from a new approach to money should read this book. If you've read dry, procedural money books, this isn't that. It's fun. I think about it all the time now.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge", August 1, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
Most writers of self-help psychology books probably deserve a savage beating for passing off inane platitudes to the general public as genuine scientific knowledge and/or wisdom. However, I genuinely enjoyed this particular book and found it quite helpful in thinking about my own thoughts and practices related to work and money, how such thoughts and practices developed, and how they might be changed to make life better. As such, I recommend this book highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for a book discussion for a group!, July 16, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
I am the President of my local chapter of the American Business Women's Association and each year we do a book study for one of our regularly scheduled meetings. This year we choose The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge to read and then discuss together. It was truly a wonderful book for our group to use and we received so many benefits from it. We learned to discover our own money scripts from our childhood which were keeping us back from being as successful as we could be in our businesses. Some of us are using a partner to do the exercises at the end of the chapters together. Many of the group found a real benefit to reading it through first quickly and then going back and rereading each chapter and doing the exercises at that time. It has helped several of our members who were really struggling with their finances. I highly recommend it to any group looking for a book to discuss and also to individuals looking for answers to their financial situations. It makes a wonderful gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and a good read., August 10, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this book very much! It was suprising how this book was able to point out my hidden attitudes towards money. I believe that I now have a much truer sense of the reasons behind all of my financial decisions. All of the parallels made to the infamous Scrooge are alot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing, August 1, 2006
This review is from: The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge : 5 Principles to Transform Your Relationship with Money (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to change their relationship with money! The authors do an amazing job of weaving their life-changing concepts with the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. The personal stories (from the authors and their clients) helped bring this book to life. I could identify with some of the stories which helped me see how my own money scripts have impacted my life. The activities and exercises at the end of each chapter are a great way to begin or continue your journey towards creating a healthy relationship with money! This book is a fun and easy read... and life changing - you can't beat that!
