The author of this book can't compose a coherent sentence, which makes this book painful to read. I suspect the author is not a native English speaker, but it boggles my mind as to why his translation efforts consisted of little more than google translate. I decided to force my way through the book. Maybe there were some good insights in there? Who knows? When he did source the unintelligible evidence for his unintelligible conclusions (which is rare) all of his sources were conveniently foreign. So an English speaking reader has two choices: try to understand what the author is saying and then take his conclusions at face value without evaluating the validity of his sources, or find something else to read. I strongly recommend the latter.

Judging from the publisher of the German edition -- GRIN Verlag -- this would appear to be an auto-translated copy of the author's Master- or Doktorarbeit. While the topic is one that has received limited academic treatment and thus can always use more analysis, the translation (such as it is) makes it unreadable. A competently-translated version could likely be a welcome addition to the literature, but it's not usable in its current format.

I quickly gave up on trying to read this the grammar is so bad that it was painful to read. I realize the author was most likely not a native English speaker, but they needed to invest the time and money in hiring a good English editor.

My first impression after a few pages:

I assume from the French first name and the Slavic surname, as well as the style and certain references, that the author is German-speaking.

Surprisingly, this is not the first German-speaking author of an academic work who appears to have not availed himself of an English editor. I realise such an editor is expensive, but really - it's necessary.

This is not to criticise his English - it's very good. But it's not quite good enough. It's just that little bit heavy going...

To make the above sound outrageously self-serving, I happen to know of a native English-speaking editor specialising in academic works translated from German - me. I have some German (although it's not nearly as good as Dubitzky's English). I am also studying security studies (which is why I took an interest in this book).

I will comment on the substance of the book later - I'm plodding through it at the moment.
