Hi there. This is a shameless bit of self promotion but it will tell you a lot about this book, this project. You may be familiar with one or more of my other books which are heavy with Zen - Thank You and OK!, Crooked Cucumber, and Zen Is Right Here. This is my first novel and it's got a bit of Zen and lots of nonZense. I had a ton of fun doing it and no one in publishing that I knew was slightly interested in it. I got the impression that they were embarrassed for me. But I'm older and have done many creative projects and that didn't really bother me much. I just pursued the path available which is print-on-demand - POD. I love POD (even though it's not a good way to sell books) because I could do what I wanted - especially with the help of Paul Speir of Speir Publishing. I illustrated it (40 drawings) and did the cover. There are 28 songs in the book and so there's a CD of songs to go with it which should be available before 2-09. A friend did great color illustrations for it that are available as Color Dreams for To Find the Girl from Perth. There's also an e-book available now for sale or it can be read for free or a donation by going to the book's website, girlfromperth dot com. Kindle coming. And there's an audiobook I hope is ready in 2-09. The website has an Errata/Changes area where you can help the ongoing copy-editing. It's a trip. Enjoy dear reader. Yours forever, dc

I have to admit that when David Chadwick first got ahold of me, back in March of 2008, and sent me the description of To Find the Girl from Perth I was a bit skeptical. The book has songs in it, for one--songs? In a book? Not done very often and usually not done well. I took a chance, however, and read the manuscript. And I was floored. I love music, I love puzzles, I love mysteries, and above all I love good writing. This book has all of those and more. The songs are not only incorporated into the story line well, they also add a new and wonderful element to the novel. The characters come alive from the very beginning--and what characters they are! They'll have you laughing, cheering and crying, while the story will have you gripping your seat at one minute then sighing with relief at the next.

And all through this you'll wonder...did this really happen? Chadwick freely admits that the introduction, at least, is based on reality, but does it go further than that? Did David really have to find the girl from Perth? Well, read the book and see if you can figure it out for yourself. You won't regret it.

What an interesting, entertaining book. I enjoyed "Thank You And OK" by David Chadwick so much I didn't want it to end, I also didn't want this one to end. It's nice to find an author who is able to write in such a creative manner. I think I even learned a few things while I was reading it, a plus. I love paintings that seem to pull you into them, you get lost just looking, David Chadwick has that effect on me, I get pulled into and lost in his work. Hope he's already started another one, if he writes them, I'll read them!
