Great book. Super photos of Midwest wild animals. Not too big to keep toddlers' attention. Good heavy cardboard pages for toddlers.

Captivating Colors and Faces,

One of the authors was my art teacher in middle school, so we decided to buy her books for our children out of curiosity. I am so glad we did! Our children love the vibrant colors and faces of woodland animals that roam in our "neck of the woods" here in Michigan. An excellent gift for little ones on your Christmas list!

Wonderful "real" pictures of the animals for a baby to see and learn.,

A hard board-type book for babies, this one has simply beautiful photographs rather than stylized or drawn cartoon type pictures. It is short, so the baby will not get tired of looking at it. There are a variety of animals, the same photos of which will appear in the longer book for older children, Lost In the Woods. I purchased one for the 8 month old granddaughter, the other for her sister, age 3 1/2. I suspect I will introduce them first to the winter books from these same authors, and save these for a spring visit.

I already have 2 books from Carl R. Sams (First Snow in the Woods and Lost In The Woods) and I prefer those to Find my friends. However, it's a nice book for toddler: not too long for story time and beautiful pictures.

Carl Sams and Jean Stoick have some amazing photos for children to enjoy, along with a storyline that lets the child interact with the book. A tree frog, a white-footed mouse, a fawn and others make it an interesting book for toddlers and pre-kindergarten children. I particularly liked the way the authors captured an image of a mother goose with her offsprings. It is one of a trilogy of books these talented authors have produced for this age group.

This darling board book features pictures of animals (primarily from the Midwest) blending into their surroundings -- a white-footed mouse, a fawn, a tree frog, turtles, a katydid, etc.
It's perfect for toddlers -- my almost-2-year-old loves the pictures, and I love that he's learning about some of the animals that live near us. (Lions and tigers et al. are great, but it's wonderful for him to learn about the animals in his own back yard, too.) It's also an extremely sturdy little book. I have just one tiny complaint. The tree frog and the walking stick are almost TOO hard to see for little ones; the tree frog in particular. Granted, the book IS called "Find My Friends," which implies that you'll have to look a bit to find them, but considering the very young audience, I think those two photos could be a bit easier to find. |
