5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, October 25, 2010
This review is from: Find and Replace (Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles, 5.03) (Audio CD)
I loved this Companion Chronicles story. The atmosphere was just right. Jo shopping for presents at Christmas in a big department store and getting stuck in a lift with Huxley, the noveliser from Verbatim six.

Katy Manning does a brilliant job of recreating her character of Jo, and is in total contrast to her portrayal of Iris Wildthyme.
But it's her impression of Jon Pertwee's voice that is so remarkably accurate. I really feel I am experiencing a genuine story from way back in the 3rd Doctor's era, such is the degree of successful characterisation Katy achieves. I could easily visualise the story in my mind, as Katy (as Jo) goes back in time and once again sees the familiar surroundings of the UNIT establishment and 'her' Doctor working in his workshop still attempting to find some way he may 'escape' from planet Earth.

The Doctor doesn't appear until the 2nd epsiode, but the lead up to this, throughout episode 1, is extremely well done and held my interest completely. And then, when Jo is reunited with the Doctor, it is just the icing on the cake. One of the best stories Big Finish have ever done.

I hope they do another one with Jo and Iris and the Doctor. I'd also love to hear another CC done with Charlotte (Charley to her friends) Pollard as I miss hearing India Fisher in the audios.
But this CC really is one of the very best ever!

With Katy Manning about to meet the 11th Doctor on the Sarah Jane Adventures one might think that Big finish might try to rush a below average episode out to gain some quick sales.

You would be wrong.

Find and replace is the single best Companion Chronicles episode since Mahogany Murderers (Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles). First you have Katy Manning's Jo Grant a better character than anyone gives credit to.

Secondly you have one of my favorite "villains" the Huxley a novalizer from the planet Verbatium 6. They are very fun villians because they are SO annoying.

And thirdly you have one of my favorite characters in the entire Doctor Why Mythos: Iris Wildthyme!

As Katy Manning plays both Jo and Iris you get three full characters rather than the plain narration that you get so much of in the Companion Chronicles.

The interplay between Jo and Huxley is spectacular and of course Iris is a real pip. Katy plays her as always to a T and takes us on the bus-ride of our lives.

The plot, Huxley attaches herself to Jo asking about the time she spent traveling through time and space with Iris Wildthyme?

Is there something wrong with Jo's memory? Possible. Is Iris drunk or something? Highly likely. And what does the 3rd Doctor have to do with all of this?

It will cost you the price of a CD to find out, but it's worth it.
