Editorial Reviews

THE VUE'S SECOND ALBUM San Francisco's vue return with their second full-length combining classic rock/r&b swagger with a Norcal art-punk sensibility for a more cohesive sound than on their first, self-titled album. Vue have spent time playing shows with the likes of The Locust, The White Stripes, Beachwood Sparks, The Faint, Black Heart Procession, to name a few, and it shows both on the new record and in their live show. An undeniable rhythm, an invitation to basic sexual energy and beat: Find Your Home

3.0 out of 5 stars Shoot the singer, December 26, 2002

This review is from: Find Your Home (Audio CD)
I first encountered the VUE at San Diego's Off the Record in 2001. I remember my first impression of them was that their collective fashion sense both enthralled and intimidated me. Don't ever let anybody tell you that looking the part isn't at least half of being a good rock band. These guys pretty much nail it in that respect. If they ever get tired of being in a band, I'm almost certain that they could make a healthy living for themselves as retailers of fine vintage threads. Aside from that, there's nothing here that you probably haven't heard in some form or another already. Unless you're completely uneducated about the state of underground rocknroll over the past ten years, you could probably come up with at least half a dozen indie type bands that sound like the Vue. On the other hand, the band is very capable, and they pull off the twin-guitar garage blues with prowess and aplomb. The one thing that gets to me though is the singer. Another reviewer referred to him as a fake mick jagger, I think that's actually rather optimistic. He definitely whines his way through most of the album, with nothing much to say about anything in particular (he seems especially tuned in to the plight of "the cheel-dren" though.) It didn't really help that my copy of this album is on the b-side of tape which also contains Jeffrey Lee Pierce's "Wildweed", a true blues/pop masterpiece. My favorite song on the album is probably "you can take her now", which has a slight hint of Richard Hell in it. All in all though, I belong to the blank generation, so I can take it or leave it this time.

I haven't purchased this yet...but i plan too! I have heard all the tracks though from a friend of mine...and I like what I hear!! These guys are very talented! Basically if you like more well-known indie bands like The White Strips and The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club you should like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll is finally cool again!, March 25, 2002

kidquiet (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Find Your Home (Audio CD)
Obviously not impressed by boy bands, hip hop, rap metal, and whatever else kids these days are grooving to, a group of young San Francisco deviants arrived at a revolutionary concept. They grew their hair out, put on some bellbottoms, learned the harmonica, and instead of wanting to be Radiohead, or Ice Cube, or whatever, they wanted to be the Rolling Stones! Imagine that! After the thirty some years since Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed, these forward thinking devils realized that there was a definite deficit in retro inspired rock and roll. I used to blush whenever my dad started talking about his "dinosaur" musical tastes in front of my friends (Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, etc.), but these guys actually embrace it. Are they completely insane? Yeah, but here's their twist: Instead of Mick Jagger on vocals, they have a generic whiner with a fake accent. Instead of memorable songs, they make songs that sound kind of sixties, I guess. Wait, what is that, an organ in the background? genius. Oh, and no, you haven't actually traveled back in time, these cats just dress up like they are actually from the late sixties, early seventies. Its really wonderful to have a third rate Rolling Stones in 2002, especially since those old albums are so hard to find. Rock On.
