Fantastic Fiction!,
By Tammy's Book Parlor "Tammy" (east texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
Once again Martha Rogers brings us a grand story that seems to be right out of the history books.
Becky Haynes is returning home after being gone to college for four years. On the train home she meets a handsome man, Geoff Kingston. Geoff is seemingly besotted with Becky and Becky likes the attention. But at the train station as everyone is meeting and greeting Becky, her long time friend, Rob Frankston, wants some time to greet Becky too but every Becky goes there is Geoff, too! Rob can't figure Geoff out. Rob "sees" right through Geoff and his slick ways but Becky and the others think Geoff is such a nice, handsome man. When terrible things start to take place and the people of Barton Creek seem to be in peril and danger Rob knows he must find out what is going on. This is a great historical read! The reader isn't quite sure what Geoff's interest in Becky is either but like Rob wants to find out. There's suspense and mystery in all the "goings on" that makes this a hard read to put down! *This book was provided for review by Charisma/Realms/Strang*

Finding Becky, #3,
This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
gFinding Beckyh is the third in the Winds Across the Prairie series and kept my interest just like the first two book. Set in Oklahoma Territory, early 1900s the series follows the settlers in their quest to carve out their familyfs living. This book starts as Becky, or Rebecca, as she would now like to be addressed, arrives home after graduating from college in Boston. Four years away from OK has broadened her horizons and changed her in many ways. She is returning to her home town to be a writer for the home town newspaper. She also wants to bring reform and new ideas to the territory. The story is filled with cowboys, wind storms, fires, home town celebrations, romance, and just a bit of mystery, to keep the reader turning the pages. Wonderful continuation to the series, canft wait for #4.

I absolutely ADORE Martha's work. She is a seasoned author who incorporates God's love in every one of her books. When I open one of her books, it's like coming home each and every time! The hearts of her readers instantly become the characters in her stories, making the readers experience absolutely unforgettable.
This is a FANTASTIC series. Barton Creek is a town I wish I could be a part of. Finding Becky takes us back to that sweet town, but added to the sweet story is a new character names Geoff Kensington......he brings along some mischief and mayhem when he arrives in town on the same train that brings Becky Haynes back into lovable Rob Frankston's life. But, Becky is long lost, and in her place is Miss Rebecca Haynes, the newly sophisticated woman journalist who's determined to stand up for woman's rights. But God, through Rob's affections for her, shows Miss Rebecca Haynes she'll ALWAYS be Becky. Through Rob, God helps Becky find herself, Him, and even true love. The spiritual messages once again flow strong, in this addition to Martha Roger's series. I highly recommend this book, along with Becoming Lucy and Morning for Dove, with 5 stars and two thumbs up. Book 4, Caroline's Choice, sounds just as fantastic and I can't wait to dive in!

This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
Finding Becky is the third book in the series Winds Across the Prairie by Martha Rogers. I read Morning Dove and really enjoyed it better that I did this one. I like the older historical storied better than in the 1900 ones. This one took place in 1905 in the Oklahoma territory before it became a state the the women suffrage movement was in full force.
Rebecca Haynes had just returned home from college in Boston and had a joy in the local newspaper, but she was really into the suffrage movement. She believed that woman should have the right to vote and should be able to get a job and get paid as much as a man. She had a long time beau waiting on her at home but had met a man on the train by the name of Geoff Kensington that was going to her home town, but he didn't look like a cowboy, so what was he going to do there? Rebecca (Becky) started dining and going riding with him, so her beau Rob Frankston the lawyer did not take to that very well. He had always loved her, even when they were children so it had always been his intent to marry her, but she wanted to be independent. As the story progresses Rebecca get more involved with the newspaper in town that she works for and had gotten away from God. Geoff didn't believe either and on Sunday he would ride our to the Haynes ranch and nosy around so what was he after? He had come to town to buy beef but that had already been taken care of and he was still going out to the ranch to see where the neighbors had tried to farm but nothing would grow so they had sold off their land to the Haynes and two other ranchers, but they had to keep their cattle out from that place as even the water was bad. Bad things begin to happen at the Haynes ranch, cattle were killed and left, their barn had been set on fire, so what was behind all of this? Could it be Geoff, the new man in town or was is someone else? You need to buy this book and read the continuing series of Winds Across the Prairie. This book was sent to me by Strang Book Group for review.

Finding Becky is a great western with a fabulous message!,
This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
Finding Becky by Martha Rogers is a wonderful historical western that has a fabulous message as well! I have enjoyed this entire series but if you have not read the first two books, you can certainly read Finding Becky as a stand alone novel. If you have read the first books then you won't want to miss this one. You will recognize several familiar characters that you already know and love. It has all the makings of a great western. There's action and adventure and danger. The thing I really like about this author is that she really weaves in some powerful messages that speak to us today as well.
I really enjoy picking up a book in the middle of a great series when I already know the characters and it feels like going home. That's the way this book was for me. I already know most of the characters and the place, so it didn't take as long to get into the book as it sometimes does a new book. I very highly recommend this book to anyone. It's well written. The story will grab you from the start and you won't be able to put it down until the end. There's lots of action and suspense and sweet romance. And the whole thing is woven together with fabulous and powerful messages. I am looking forward to the next book in this series which is Caroline's Choice! I am looking forward to reading Caroline's story!

This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
Finding Becky is the 3rd book in the Winds Across The Praire series, but can easily be read as a stand alone book! I had no problems jumping right into this story.
When Rebecca Haynes returns home to Barton Creek after spending four years back east procuring a degree in jounalism, her friends notice that she has changed. First off they had always called her Becky but she informs them she wants to be called Rebecca, she also comes off much more independant and confident, but the biggest change they seem to notice is the fact that her faith in God has changed. She seems to have grown away from the faith she had grown up with, she now believes that people make their own choices and therefore decide their own fate. That God is only there if things go wrong. While back east she also became immersed in womans suffrage movement. She hopes that the job that she has landed with the Barton Creek Cronicle will allow her to write articles that might further help the womens movement. Rob Frankston has loved Becky since they were 13 years old, she has never shown more than a friendly interest in him, but he has always been determined that they might marry someday. He becomes jealous of Geoff, a man that came to town on the same train Becky did. Geoff says he is there to purchase cattle but Rob is sure there is more to his story. Can Rob help Becky find her faith, and perhaps win her heart? Historical Christian Romance Fiction is one of my favorite genre's to read, and Martha Rogers writing is perfect. This was my first opprotunity to read her writing and now I want to read everything she has written. She writes in such a way that her characters personalities just jump off of the page, I also enjoyed the romantic tension between the main characters. I also loved the secondary characters in the book and can't wait to read Caroline's Choice the next book in this series, which is due out Jan 14th 2011.

This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
This is the first book I've read of this series. Set in the Oklahoma Territory, 1905, Rebecca Haynes is coming home from college. She is determined to become a journalist, specializing in Women Suffrages. Rebecca is independent and doesn't need anyone, not even God to help her make the decisions in her life and she especially doesn't need a man.
But when she comes home, she meets an attractive man, Geoff. Geoff is coming to Barton Creek to do some cattle business and she finds out he's doing business with her father. Geoff finds Rebecca interesting and attractive and woo's her, but Rob, Rebecca's friend since childhood has plans for Rebecca and Geoff gets in the way and Rebecca is liking all this attention!! A fun, historical, somewhat love story that I definitely recommend!

We first met Becky Haynes in Becoming Lucy and she's grown up. Returning from Wellesley College, she comes home with a new name, Rebecca, and new attitudes. Set on becoming a writer, she begins working for the town newspaper. Rob has become a lawyer and has patiently waited for Becky to return home. The Rebecca who steps off the train is sophisticated and opinionated. She's a budding suffragette and tenacious in her desire for all women to have the right to vote.
Geoff has come to Barton Creek under the guise of purchasing cattle, but he is also scoping out the oil prospects. Rob is determined to find out his real intentions towards Becky, as well as Barton Creek. All your favorite characters from Becoming Lucy and Morning for Dove return and I think that Martha Rogers just gets better. I liked, but didn't love Becoming Lucy and I'm so glad I didn't let that deter me from reading the rest of this series. Becky is a delightful character and this is simply an enjoyable book. I'm looking forward to book four, Caroline's Choice.

Women's rights....,
This review is from: Finding Becky: Winds Across the Prairie, Book Three (Paperback)
I am eager to continue this series of Ms. Roger's! Mrs. Roger's truly has Becky fulfill all the stories of what happens to young women who go away to college. Miss. Becky comes home determined to make her mark in the world, free the enslaved and tired women and enable them with voting rights, not get married and most of all, see that they do not need God, they have themselves. The young man she left behind is somewhat confused and struggles, but her family is strong in their faith and love for her and they in a very loving way, draw her back to her first Love, first God and then young Rob. Added in there is a mystery involving oil drilling and another suitor vying for her attentions and distracting her, but can God win him over too?
This story kept me reading, I felt like Mrs. Rogers did an excellent job of showing how the feminist movement had many worthy ambitions and goals, but some of their ideals did take young women away from their faith, even that long ago. |
