This book is a must-have resource if you're planning to go birding in southeast Arizona. The layout of the book is easy to follow. A section covering basic information is at the beginning. The main part consists of site descriptions arranged by geographic area. Each area has an overview map, and some areas have one or more detail maps. The locations of birding sites within each area are described, and species which may be expected there are listed. Detailed driving directions are given for major sites, and the hours of access and any admission fees required are indicated.

The site guides are followed by a checklist of all bird species ever documented in southeastern Arizona. The list is annotated with comments on frequency of occurrence as well as on habitat types and specific locations where a species is likely to be found. Seasonal bar graphs of occurrence complete this section. The book finishes with listings of various resources and references.

The recommendation to purchase this book was the single best tip we received when planning our birding trip to southeastern Arizona. The accurate information it contains saved us untold time and hassle.
