A wonderful devotional book for women -- and men!,
By
This review is from: Finding Calm in the Chaos: Christian Devotions for Busy Women (Paperback)
Kathy Bostrom has written a wonderful devotional book that encourages readers to reflect on and engage with scripture and prayer in their daily lives. One of the book's strengths is that Bostrom has the reader reflect on one scripture in a variety of ways over the course of a week. New understandings and ideas may be revealed with each day's reading of the scripture. At the end of each week is a Sabbath Celebration, a time to incorporate light, prayer, scripture and silence into one's personal worship. I appreciate Kathy Bostrom's writing, which illuminates the sacred in daily living and encourages the reader to enjoy the gift of daily devotional time.

Outstanding Christian Devotional,
This review is from: Finding Calm in the Chaos: Christian Devotions for Busy Women (Paperback)
This devotional is truly exceptional. It is written using a weekly format that makes it easy to use, with some variety in the components of the weekly devotions. There are personal anecdotes that are full of warmth and wisdom, scripture lessons, and much wisdom. I have loved this book so much that I've started giving it to friends as gifts. I highly recommend it!!

I love the way this book helps the reader to chew on scriptures from different angles, a single scripture at a time. Great for busy women!

I purchased for my sister in law who has been suffering from anxiety. I haven't read it myself but thought that it would help her some. She says that it does. Makes a nice gift.

This book was given to me last year by a friend, who somehow thinks that I am busy and have a bit of chaos in my life. Hmmm, I think she is right.I love the way the book is organized. The first day of each week, begins with a single short Scripture passage which is the focus of the week. The way the book is organized, it is designed to begin on the first day of the week, then end on the day you celebrate as the Sabbath. There is a monthly focus (so you need to remain within the month), then weekly it follows a pattern: Day 1: Scripture passage/Spirit Boosters for the week Day 2: Devotion Day 3: Poem Day 4: Prayer Day 5: Devotion Day 6: Quotation Day 7: Sabbath Celebration. The organization means that you need to adjust your mindset. You can't just whip out the devotional and read a passage for the day. It is designed, instead, to help you keep your focus throughout the week. By using a single Scripture passage for the week, it does help. There are four weeks of passage for every month, so the book is designed to where you can begin any given month of the year. However, if you do the math, you realize that there are a total of 48 weeks, not 52. Since the author did not address this issue, I begin each month on the first Monday of the month, then continue through the four weeks. This means (gasp) that I might actually be reading some of the devotions in the following month, or that on certain months I take a week off. The idea is to make it easy to follow, but it can be a bit confusing if you don't think it out before you begin. I should mention that I am also a "busy pastor" like Kathy Bostrom, and this particular organization helps me to remember to have my own Sabbath rest, even if it is held on a day other than Sunday.

I like the format in some ways I found myself wanting more some days on the topics than was given. It was almost an empty feeling. I love the way they had more time however on Sundays and I have never seen that in any other book and found this format very intriguing and spiritually uplifting

The Title of the book does not clearly define the pages that follow. I am disappointed in the way the book was setup, and content thereof. I expected the information to be more inspiring than it is. But, its an okay Devotional.
